Any one in med school

I have noticed that at times my heart will beat fast for a few beats then slow down to a regular beat. It happens rarely and I haven't noticed any other symptoms, other than noticing my heart rate has increased. To mr it sounds like an arrhythmia? I think I will get it checked out next time I see the doc. Just trying to see if there are any knowledgable people on this site that know medicine and the human body.

I take grade 12 exercise science and that was a weak description so you should go to a cardiologist.

What you have described is premature ventricular contractions. Look it up and I would also see a doctor because it can be harmless or it can be a sign of an underlying problem depending on the symptoms you have alongside these PVCs.

Fuck man. A lot of people that have it are old, Im almost 18....but I have sporadic fibrillation arrythmia ( my diagnosis as of now). Might as well start taking aspirin once a day and check out the cardiologist.

Should I stop smoking cheeba, and drinking caffeinated beverages? this is a ski forum haha but just trying to see if anyone knows about this stuff. Definitely will talk to the doctor about it though.

Could also be Paroxysmal SupraVentricular Tachycardia or just simple palpitations. Impossible to tell without an EKG.

See your doctor, ideally soon if symptoms persist. If you encounter any shortness of breath, chest pressure, or chest pain call 9-1-1.

word. I was looking at that as being the possibility too. I probably will go to a clinic and see what they say. Its very sporadic though. Haven't had one in a while until a few hours ago. To me its not really discomforting its kind of borderline pleasant in a weird way, but its not a good thing.

Word. Im about to talk to my dad about it and try to get an appointment scheduled. Hopefully I can still ski, if not I would have to sit in a cabin for a week doing absolutely nothing.

probably, both of those things increase your heart rate unnecessarily(you dont need them), get some common sense and go to the doctor

Used to happen to me but now that I think about it it hasn't happened in a long while. Do you feel almost like you can't breath for a short second? I don't know what caused it for me but it was never a big problem

lol I hold my breath to try and slow it down. Doesn't seem to effect it though. I talked to my dad and he said that I shouldn't be to worried about it since it only lasts a few seconds then goes back to normal, but should still get it looked at and pay attention to it. The Dr. has spoken his word.

Doc will say cut down on caffiene. Do you only notice it when its quiet? Its in your head. Hell order an echo and a holter monitor for your heart. Being young = no problem. Walk into a cardiologist office and see 1000 old people.

seems more like a PVC than v-tach, could just me palpations also, i worked in a caridac rehab center of a hospital this past semester, shit was pretty cool, basically took strips of patients and blood pressures all day

Atrial fibrillation. My father has it. It can be very uncomfortable at times. He has had it since he was 17. You go get yourself checked out to be on the safe side. Could be harmless could be something serious.

Damn, I thought this was going to be about med school experiences. I am thinking of becoming a doctor, specifically an endocrinologist. I want to hear people's experiences in med school.
