I'm really not actually. Sure, he has to prove himself still (Obviously not gonna be one of the GOAT's with only two albums out) but he has shown he has mad talent and crazy potential. His lyrical content and pure ability are nearly unmatched in this day and age of bubblegum rap. I think he is one of the rappers that can bring hip-hop back from the slump it's in. Who are your top five rappers of all time, just out of curiosity.
What you said was he is one of the greatest of all time, a pretty profound claim. In no particular order: GZA, KRS 1, AZ, Black thought, Q tip, Phife dawg, Guru, Big Pun, Scarface, Tupac, Method Man, Rakim, Biggie, Eminem, Common, Most Def, Pete Rock and CL Smooth, Busta Rhymes, Bun B, Lauren hill, Wyclef, EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM IS BETTER THAN KENDRICK, Do you want me to keep listing off names that are better?
And just to be clear, I think Lamar is a damn good rapper, Good kid Maad city was tight. But just because he's the best of his time doesn't mean he's up there with the greatest rappers of ALL time, This era in rap isn't exactly the golden age of hip hop.
I've never wanted to be one of those kids that always bitches about when one of their favourite artists goes mainstream and everyone starts sucking his dick (ie. kdot). But something about hearing so many kids hyping kendrick that only heard GKMC pisses me off, they have no idea what OD or section 80 even means. I get Kendrick is the cool shit now but it pisses me off how many kids just listen to his shit because everyone else does.
can someone please embed this - i know this isnt related, but macklemore absolutely thrashes kid ink... I hope that goes to show how weak kid ink is; not even talking about don trip yet, now he really sucks.
I've always been interrested in hiphop, with so many great artists on my playlist. When a couple of my friends told me about Kendrick Lamar, i looked him up on youtube and was very disappointed. First one i heard was swimming pool...
Kendrick is the the Goepper of hip hop. He's got the technicality on lock but has no presence whatsoever, no signature. You gotta put in some serious passion, listen to some older MCs, they straight up ignited the mic.
I said he MAY be one of the greatest of all time. As in he has the potential to be. And Kendrick is better than several of those rappers (this is a semi-opinion based debate, keep in mind) After 1 album Nas was said to be the greatest of all time, even surpassed Rakim in most peoples opinion. I don't think GKMC was Illmatic, But I think it's up there alongside Illmatic, 36 Chambers, The Chronic or at least one day it will be.
Kendrick blows, he not nearly half as good as anyone on that list-not even close.
He's NS' flavor of the month. In a few months everyone will hate him, NS goes through this cycle every 6 months or so, remember when NS use to go wild over Mac Mill and wiz haha, imagine if you made a thread about them now? haha
hotdogs and handrails
springs4life-you should look hood on and off the hill not just dress like a preppy little white kid all week then when you hit the hill act all gangsta and shit.
Maybe not to you, but to the population of hip-hop listeners as a whole it seems that way. Give him time, he will either be a straight up disappointment, or something wonderful.
@mattslines: I never liked Mac or Wiz, because I like GOOD hip-hop. Kendrick has proven he has talent and potential, now he has to prove his lasting power. And personally I don't go through phases, or flavours of the month. If I liked an album at one point, chances are I'll like it forever.
