Going another year without Twintips

Ok, so here's the deal, last year was my first year skiing park, so I didn't bother getting twintips in case I didn't enjoy it. I had loads of fun and by the end of the season could 90 a box and do sloppy 3's, so this year I was looking forward towards getting some Chronics. Unfortunately that kind of fell through and I don't have the money to afford them.

So, right now I have a pair of Salomon Tornado's from 2010 that I rode last year and a pair of 150 CM Volkl RTM Jr's from a few seasons ago. Selling them to make money is out of the question because my parents don't believe in Internet transactions, and I already had to fight to keep my dad from giving away the RTM's to my cousin who won't grow into them for a few more years.

I will likely use the RTM's for park because they are lighter and less likely to catch the tails in the snow if I end up switch compared to the tornado's. I'm 5'7 so they are pretty small for me though. Will I be able to progress much more with just these?

Congratulations! I had just took pictures of the invaders I have and as I went to post them I saw your update. I'm glad things worked out.

I know that feel bro. My dad isn't that extreme but if I ever sag my pants even like 4 inches I get a good lecturing on the lift about how immature it makes me look and how my suspenders were made for a specific purpose. If I would have been able to post earlier, I would have recommended renting twintips until you can buy some better skis. That's what I do and when I'm not broke anymore I will buy better skis. Just keep working with your dad, but where I ski (A Basin), the park is pretty empty and when there are people, they are pretty chill and always cheer people on. I was able to get my dad even the biggest jumps (which aren't too big, but anyways) any during this summer, he said he was looking forward to getting in the park.

Dude that really sucks I wish I had an extra pair but I'm also a 16 year old with uptight parents. I got all my gear on my own last season, but my parents let me order it online. If you have 80 bucks and go to a relatively nice hill just go into the park and ask around for anyone that has a pair of skis lying around that they would let go for 80 bucks. Guarantee someone has some old beat up pair of skis they would sell you. My friend was in the same position as you, and he brought some old a-bangs off someone for $50 and had a great season.

Donating skis to a kid who needs some new shred sticks is by far one of the most gracious things i've seen on the internet. Man, post some pics of your new skis when you get them. Have fun dude!

OP: If you can come up with some dollars in cash to give me (because I'll pay for the initiall shipping) ThaLorax can ship the skis to me and I'll bring 'em to you (I'm in CT). I guess you'll have to trust that I have no ulterior motives (the skis are far too small for a 6'0", 200 lb guy like me). I'd do it. Just a thought.

Such a good thread. And if your parents still dont want to dish out 300/400 for skis I'd check local used sporting goods stores. They usually have some great deals. Where in Mass do you live? Might have some suggestions for you

This thread is awesome guys!!! My friend actually had the same problem with his parents and he actually won a brand new pair of line stepups on my twins at a rail jam...that kid tears it up even on alpine skis but I'm really happy for you and I wanna see some pictures of your skis soon!!!

This thread restored my faith in newschoolers. After lurking for 3 years, I almost stop using it after being active for the past week or so, but this thread has changed my mind. Congrats OP, I still remember persuading my dad a pair of 141 ex-demo salomon 1080's was a solid investment, it makes the skis that much better.

Your mom and dad sound like a joy to be around. What year were they born in? 1926? And as far as their viewpoints on twin tip skis, make sure you show them the olympics when skiing comes up, and see what they say then.
Man, I'm glad my mom and dad were cool back in the day when I was young.

You said before you had enough of your own money to buy some skis online, but they still wouldn't let you buy them?
Surely, if it's your own money, and you spend it online and you end up getting fucked over, it's you who's out of pocket and you who's been fucked, not your parents.

No, I had money but not enough to afford them. I only had about $200 from working this summer, and couldn't afford some new skis. I would have bought some used ones online, but my parents are not really in favour of buying used stuff online

That is why you need symmetrical twins. Regular skis put you way off balance, also you will not be taken seriously.

Hey OP, if you dont have any skis, I can send you last year's AR7's they are 166 but they have been used at water ramps so they are not the best condition. If you somehow cant get skis or something else doesnt work ill send them to you

True...but... I had k2 bad seeds last year. 149's. small as fuck. I just turned 15 on November 12 so this was the season to get new skis. I got 168 punisher jibs (not the best choice i know but I only go about 2 times a week). My old skis were mounted so far back. My new ones are center mounted. Everything is SO MUCH EASIER now because last year I would always fall off. So, in a way it will help.

What? Punisher jibs are pretty good from what i've heard.

And to the above post about learning stuff on directional skis, i kinda disagree. My friends and i learned to hit jumps and railslide and do 180's on directional skis. definitely a weird feeling but it still helped me learn to ride
