Calling All Atheists

***First off I just want to say im not trying to start a shit storm by any means although unfortunately, one is most likely imminent.

I just have a quick question for you. I'm a practicing Catholic. That being said, Im not some radical, fundamentalist that tries to shove religion or God down peoples throats. Please re-read that last statement before you try to post some smart comment. But any way, Im NOT a creationist. I believe in evolution and the big bang theory simply because evolution has been proven and the big bang theory is the most plausible explanation for how our universe came to exist. But my question for all the atheists that dont believe in any god at all, is how did that hot, microscopic ball of gasses and other matter come about? Once again, im just curious to hear how atheists explain this or if the majority of them believe in a different theory of how the universe first came about. Im not trying to push religion on any one.

This. if god was an omnipotent all seeing creator he would see right through your bullshit easily.

The thing is it doesn't matter if we know how the universe was created or not. just because we dont know doesn't mean we should describe to some religious dogma. We should continue to use science and study the universe and our world to find out the answers to these questions instead of using the lame excuse of "god created it".

There is no benefit to believing in god other than to use him as a crutch for your own weak-mindedness. He is for the people who can not grasp the hard reality that we dont know anything and we are simply a microscopic spec on the infinite expanse of a universe that is indifferent to us an will crush us whenever it likes without warning.

That being said those of us who dont believe in the after-life or god will take more pleasure in our brief spark of consciousness and try to fulfill our dreams and desire in this life instead of waiting for the (non-existant) next one.

Also OP, you give me the terrible impression you have read none of the arguments against your position.

for the record im not atheist, the idea that you should be afraid of god at least to me proves social control theory, you only believe because you are afraid of not believing because you dont want to go to hell. thousands of years ago it was easy to use god as a scare tactic to keep social order. if you sin god will not bless you with good harvest. if you have a bad harvest you better work harder at not sinning. i feel like the idea to believe in something because you are afraid of simply not existing or some grown up version of santa clause (you better be good or else ur not getting presents) is simply kinda sad. you should do the right thing bc you have respect for others not bc god will keep you out of heaven if you dont do the right thing.

It just happened. That's the final stand religious folk have - "Well, uh, what happened THEN?" and it's just a standoff. We trust that it just came from nothing (well, or whatever you call it) and you say it was God.

well I'm sure parts of the bible are true but I agree with you that morals and ethics, whether from the bible or not, should be what's stressed. On a different, interesting note, what about all of the people who have had near-death experiences and say they went to heaven, met their dead family members, etc. Obviously a good amount of these could have been made up, but every single one? It could be argued that whatever they thought happened was only an in-brain experience also, but the stories of people after their experience where they know something that they couldn't possibly have known before are very intriguing.

someone once posted a "conversation with god" he found where god was one of a small group of superior beings and everyone alive was really one person who was living an infinite amount of lives in different times and places. everyone was actually one person coexisting with itself.this god controlled where this single human went next and eventually that person would transcend to the same level as god.

everyone is one person that a god is training to be a god by making this one person experience the lives of everything in the universe and the god sat back and watched to see what happened to human race as well as other intelligent species it had created. basically a race for which species is better that ended in one of them being another god since each species was one individual

The bible is the word of God...i think it should be taken seriously. There just isnt a start of God and humans just dont have the capability to think and understand that. Thats why it is all about faith

Why do we have morals? Why do we feel bad when we are dicks to people? Why do we have the desire to help others and we dont have the animal instinct to fend for ourselfs? I believe God put morals in us, God gave us the power to love.

But morals are not because of god. Morals are because humans think it is wrong to cause pain on another person because we are empathetic creatures. We want to have good emotions and for others to have good emotions. That is morals.

The bible talks so much about faith, its the bridge to God, we dont need to understand something to know God exists, its not the point, its like asking my girlfriend to prove to me that she loves me, thats not fair, i have to have faith in her that she loves me and thats why the relationship works out

The bible was a book that was written in the last 1/100 of the time humans have been on the earth. It has been SCIENTIFICALLY PROVEN that modern day humans, homo sapiens sapiens, came to be about 200,000 years ago. They evolved from earlier species, so it was a gradual change that never actually stopped. We are still evolving at this very moment.

You can't trust the bible because it was written in a language we translated in many different ways, and it only existed for 1% of human existence.

I can trust the bible because it has turned my life around. I was a depressed confused kid. I went to bible study with a friend. It was weird how it happened but we read one little passage that answered all the questions i was having. Everytime im having troubles with family or friends or money i prey about it and look in the bible and there is always help its weird how easy it it, thats why i trust it, its lead me down the right road

2 main reasons im atheist
1, i look at the world around us and just think, no fucking way theres an all loving god with all the shit that happenes
 2, i simply think the idea of an all powerful creator is stupid, no offence, just sounds dumb to me

an argument that im often confronted with is " so what? you think all this just happened by chance?" my response " i think that is more believable that a supernatural creator doing it yes."

Idk, people make up crazy shit all the time when they're supposed to believe something.

At the same time it could totally be legit without being legit. Near death experiences can be a crazy trip. Wouldn't surprise me that peoples lives flash by them, things from the past, family members, whatever.

I mean fuck, we lay in a bed at night and trip balls for 8 hours.

Just saying that even if they're telling the truth it doesn't really prove that there's a god or heaven. They could just be tripping balls off the chemicals their body is releasing.

There has to be a beginning to everything. It doesn't matter when god came into existence, it had to happen at some point in time. So, I'll ask again: what created god? This everything and nothing bullshit is a pretty sad excuse for saying "I have no idea what the fuck I am talking about."
