Honestly, snowboarding sucks but the shittier the mountain the more justified snowboarding is.
On a crappy hill in the midwest I'd probably rather take a snowboard (unless I wanted to hit a huge kicker since I don't want my feet locked in.)
Sunday River is a middle ground place where I'd be split on what to grab. I had an epic day at Sunday River on a board. (End of the last season before I stopped playing hockey and skiied competitively so before I became legit at skiing.) Might have been my 5th day or so on one so just got good at snowboarding and I went down everything and did it well, it was a lot of fun in the trees and moguls.
But Sunday River is kind of a cocktease there's fun stuff but it isn't a real mountain. If it was the Loaf I'd much rather ski. ANd I would rather cut off my dick than spend a day in Utah/Tahoe/Colorado/Alps on a board. It would be a huge waste of a big mountain. I remember a day at Breck the year after that my brother convinced me to snowboard one day and I couldn't even get up that sweet T Bar in the best part of breck on the stupid board and it was a huge waste.
But if I find myself renting at some crappy mountian I'll probably snowboard.
