BST, beating a dead horse

I know this has been a beat to death topic already, but it still really frustrates me.

Have you considered making a classifieds section rather than having it as a forum? Just make another content type like the news and have categories and then a few filters.

I realize this isn't a money making section of the site, but my god, the bst forum is awful and filled with "bumps" cause everyone is trying to sell their shitty old hoodie and it's damn near impossible for me to actually find anything since search just comes up with a ton of posts about jj's vs whatever.

So yeah, new section. Categories = Youth, Women's, Skis, Boots, Bindings, Outerwear, Accessories, Streetwear.

Filter to select category.
Filter to select new/used
Filter to select N.America or International
Filter to select for sale, wtb, want to trade

This would be glorious.


Just play it out in your mind a few times. Hell, you could even charge $1 per listing or something and people would probably pay it cause it just makes sooooo much more sense.

Dead honest with you its absolutely something we would LOVE to do, but its lower on the priority list currently. We have an immense amount of other things we want to address before we do this.

More likely would be to suggest tweaks we could make to get this section dialed.

I'd suggest imposing standardized thread title formats as a possible solution. Do away with all the sensationalization and simply state what is being sold. Mandatory title transparency would also rid us of those annoying threads that don't even mention what is being sold all together. These only clutter the forum, and render the products being sold unsearchable.

true, but then you get into the variation between people wanting to just have one big sale, versus those who want to go through with selling each item individually

I don't see the issue.. In both cases the items being sold would have to be stated in the title.

just make different places for outerwear, helmets, goggles, shirts, and any other things or just combined parts of this

If you need to keep it to the forum for now. Regulating titles I think would be really key.

I also think doing something about bumps would be helpfull. It's so annoying when you post a thread and its something like skis and it's gone in 2 hours because someone feels the need to bump their jibberish hoodie 15 times.

What if you made filters required in the title.

Say you have a pair of skis and 2 hoodies

You regulate the title to "Sale, New, US, Skis, streetwear, 185 Benchetlers, 2 Jibberish

Why I say this is because then the search bar becomes useable. It becomes way more likely that if I know to search "sale skis benchetlers" that posting would come up instead of 15 arguments.

I know it seems annoying and long, but if you explained that it would make the search bar work exponentially better for BST, I think people would follow. It's also way easier to scan through the page.

This may also eliminate some bumping since people could just search "sale streetwear" and all the lovely jibberish postings would show up.

With that, I think it would be really cool if there was a bst moderator that would unpublish listings that sold, or Even just changed the thread title to "sold" or something like that so that when searching, you also don't come up with 15 sold threads.

Has the search bar recently been updated to how most recent posts? I was going to comment on that but it looks like it had most recent posts first now

I'm seeing this too. Not sure I'm a fan. I wish it sorted most relevant to what you typed in then by date.

I tried searching sale jacket and every post with the word sale in it comes up... and nothing really relating to jackets comes up near the top.

BST wouldn't be an issue if there was a standardized title and the search pulled up relevant > recent
