i think it would be better to have a threshold where downvoted threads get auto deleted.
Just like highly upvoted threads get recognition on the front page. Downvoted threads need a perk from getting downloaded or people won't have a real reason to downvote.
well the flaw would be mass downvoting for a thread that is actual good content. Just like if a member that is not so well liked (kangbang cough cough) makes a thread, even if the thread is good people are going to downvote it since its fucking kangbang.

Although this could cause a lot of thread that could be the equivalent of 'faunt got bigger' to be deleted and therefore a lot of potential classic threads to be deleted. Other than that I think that is a great idea.
Well you could make it so that they don't actually get completely deleted, simply fade away into irrelevance.... still there if you want to zip in for a laugh.
Would it be possible to choose how you want to sort threads? It can be a transition period. Either sorted by the voting, or by recent posts etc. That way you can still find underrated threads by using the recent post function, and find good threads by using the voting. If we like the way the voting works, then you can remove the sorting function. Or would the code for that be too difficult?
Its about taking influences from other places and weaving the successful parts in with the way we do things. There's no way that Matt Harvey could have gotten absolutely everything right in 1999 when he built the site. So we must evolve and change.
Great artists cite influences on their work. Nirvana was into Scratch Acid, Mudhoney and other punk bands. Their sound was almost failed from their influences, but took the right parts. Microsoft and Apple stole the idea of mouse-based windowed Operating systems from Xerox and perfected it.
Almost nothing you ever see is truly unique, the best genius comes from assembling the right parts of stuff that has already been done before.
