After 6 month after ACL surgery (back to skis)

first and hopefully last time i have to waste a year on that... my legs feeling strong been working on it all summer. im just wondering if anyone else has anything to help out for getting back on skis. seems to be a big problem these days with the amount of people blowing out there knees. how long did it take for yours to feel good again on snow?

im only like 7 or 8 weeks post op and honestly idgaf im skiing when snow starts falling ima just take it super easy no jumps or shredding just seshing and riding next to buds

was on snow pretty much exactly 6 months out of surgery. take it easy at first, just cruise around for a few weeks before hitting any rails. I started hitting jumps about a month after that, and it was into utah pow. Even though your leg probably feels real good, it's still not completely healed (most ACL injuries aren't properly, fully healed until about 1-1.5 years after surgery). You'll know what works for you, just don't push it like crazy right away even though that's what you'll want to do.

get one of these, i had a stage 3 mcl tear last spring and have been using this thing a bunch. go see a pt and see what they tho, they will have tons of good exercises for you

Complete your rehab. Do more if you can. Don't rush things, you'd rather be heathy the rest of your life

rehab until your bad knee is atleast as strong as the other knee. If you hurt your dominate leg, then make sure it is stronger.

I've been working on my knee like crazy since last december, I can do 10 1 legged squats now and it feels great. but i still can't kneel due to the graft choice :-/

I was back ready to go 100% in 5 months, but I also doubled up on my PT and did extra at home. Hit it hard these last few weeks and ask your doctor/therapist their opinion.

Went back on snow at 6 months and took about 3 weeks to get back most rail tricks and learn some new ones. Stayed away from jumps for a while but you should be fine.

Just take it slow. I was skiing six months later but wasn't 100 percent until a year later. I worked really hard, and still do now, 2 years post op. You don't ever want to do that shit again. To the guy who wants to go skiing 7 weeks out DO NOT DO IT. The way the recovery works is for the first 2-3 months the graft the surgeon puts in your knee is dying and slowly being completely replaced by your body. What this means is that the graft is actually stronger 2 weeks post op than it is 7 weeks post op. This is the most dangerous time in the recovery-your range of motion is back, you have probably regained most of your muscle mass, and your feeling ready to go, but your absolutely NOT. Your graft is at it's weakest point, and all it takes is one little slip up and back at square one. It's sad how little a lot of people just have no idea about their surgeries. Your knee is fucking important, take the recovery extremely seriously, do it right, and you'll never have to worry about it again.

Make sure your legs are equal or your rehabbed leg is stronger than your other leg. Get a brace. Take it easy, don't do anything too 'risky' as depending on what type of graft you got your ACL probably isn't at 100%.

I tore my ACL last October and, due to the false diagnosis by the first doctor I visited, I had to wait several months for my operation (muscle-building pt included), so that there wasn't any swelling when I went in to OP.

Now I am 9 months after OP and the knee feels good, I have been running a lot, although I realise I should be doing more pt exercises. I am just wondering which type of graft you chose SubySki, because kneeling is pretty painful for me as well, although possible now. Would be great to see a reply :)

I wasn't actually offered a graft choice (I probably could have asked, had I researched more) - the doctor seemed to be convinced that the patella tendon graft was best, and he had done over 8000 successful grafts at the time so I respect his decision. Apparently the main disadvantage of this graft is anterior knee pain and risk of fracturing the patella, but I'm not too worried about that right now!

Can't wait to ski, will also be taking it very easy this winter. Do your rehab, listen to your doctor's advice! :)

I had the patellar graft also. My doctor highly recommended that because I am under 30 years old. He said young guys bounce back with those grafts easily. He is 1 of the Ortho's for the NY rangers, and Knicks. He is out of New Milford Ortho, in CT.

I started doing a lot of Plyo's two weeks ago and it really is helping my confidence and mental part of the injury along with muscles. try some 1 legged box jumps on a stair. Make sure you foucs more on form and less on height or speed. I've already been skiing this season and I feel about 75% I don't think I will ever be 100% in the park, but that may also be because I'm getting older.

I tore mine in October aswell and was miss diagnosed too, the doctor thought I tore my LCL. which turned out to be the only ligament i didn't tear or partially tear. so i had a hamstring graft because my PCL had a partial tear, thanks for the advice tho guys its good to have some insight. i know that indestructible feeling, problem is that how i felt before it all so im going to take it slow this season and get my feet back under me, did any of you have a problem with landing backseat?

Bump. My surgery is in 6 days. Im going to push through the summer real hard and hopefully have the best winter next year.
