Do your parents buy your ski gear?

people on this website frequently make fun of each other by suggesting that "mommy buys all your ski stuff for you," so im curious as to how often that actually happens. BE HONEST! theres no shame in admitting that your mom or dad supports your endeavors, and im curious to see how everyone matches up.

im 19 and i usually have to buy my own clothes, helmet, goggles, and other outerwear things. the more expensive things like boots and bindings and skis i can generally convince my dad to buy for me as long as its in reason. if i want something less necessary, however, i usually have to buy it for myself, like powder skis (im on the east coast).

what about you? its fine if you say that every single one of your 40 jiberish hoodies was bought by your mom, or if your parents dont love you and make you fend for yourself entirely.

Im 19 and Ill get a piece or two of gear for my birthday/christmas depending on how expensive but everything else I pay for. It definitely helps out a lot

I don't have rich parents so I pretty much buy all my stuff. I usually get some stuff for Christmas though.

last pair of skis i bought my parents paid half of (birthday present) an i paid the other half, although now i'm working in a ski shop i wouldn't dream of asking them for money for skis...

i usually buy all my stuff. i did get my skis for christmas, though. and i got 1 jiberish hoodie for getting all a's. other than that i buy all my gear

I pretty much buy my stuff, but I rely on Christmas/birthdays to get some of the stuffs. And I can usually get them to help on my season pass.

as a 21yo, since i was 18 of my ski gear.
2 pairs of skis have been birthday/chriistmas presents
1 pair bought with my own money from working and student loan money.
i bought my boots myself.
I bought my current outerwear,
have had cheap pieces of outerwear bought as presents from family
my goggles were a present, i bought other lenses for the frames.
my transceiver was a present, my probe and shovel i bought.
my ski bag i bought.
i've bought all my uni ski trips myself on work money and loans
the one piece of equipment that was bought by my parents and wasnt a present was my helmet, i mean who wouldnt want to protect their childs brain/skull/mental health?

spark notes: lots of my stuff was christmas/birthday presents, bought some stuff/all trips outright by myself and loans, only my helmet was bought for me.

At 16, my parents buy pretty much all my ski gear. But that means a jacket and pants once every 4-5 years and skis only when I outgrow my others. I still have the same neck warmer from when I was 4...

I got a job mowing lawns with my cousin occasionally last summer though, I hope to work full time and start making enough to buy my own next year.

used to get 100 bucks toward skis for christmas/birthday. When I was 10-12 they bought me my first two pairs at a ski swap.

I've bought 90% of my stuff since I got my first job at 16. Now I'm 19 and buy it all unless I get something for christmas which is usually a hoodie or goggles or something.

i am 15 and my parents buy all my gear except for when i "dont need it" so i buy googles or else i would still have my first pair and helmets and gloves.

basically I sold a bunch of shit on ebay and got my gear through that, usually I'm supported by my parents though because I can't find a job and they are generous. They also both ski and know how it is, price wise and stuff, and how much I'm into it. I usually pool together money with my friends for big trips though.

I've always bought my own gear, except for basic cheap outerwear when I was a young lad. My parents would give me day passes or pay perctanges of my larger purchases for my birthday and christmas.

Funny thing is, when I started skiing I was the only one in my family, and then my brother started, and then my other brother and my dad started, and now this year my dad bought a family pass, so this is the first year I haven't had to pay for any of my pass since I started skiing, which is very nice. I'm eighteen.

i pay for anything i don't get for christmas. I parents pay for half of my seasons pass if i make honor all year which is so easy to do

Parents rented boots/bindings/skis/poles until i was 12 or 13. When I was 13 my parents bought my equipment and I still have it. They'll probably buy me my next equipment setup, but usually I have always payed for outerwear. Aside from things like a nice jacket and pants which they picked up for me.

Seeing as I also am heavily into filming, I usually pay for all my camera gear which includes lenses/stabilizers/bodys
etc. which is almost always more than a full equipment/outwewear setup.

My parents buy me a lot. However, I am a jobless 14 year old. There starting not to buy me as much and I dont have any money. I bought my skis. THATS IT and im already broke. My parents bought me my boots just cause and they got me bindings for my birthday. I'm getting a job this summer though

My parents pay for my food and tickets, not my gear. Some of the money I use to pay for my gear is from my birthday/Christmas money though. I am really lucky for this, they are supportive and both ski themselves.

im 15 and they bought my skis and boots last year which are the same ones im using this year, but i paid all of my outerwear and clothing and such. i get my pass for christmas doe and if we go to another mountain its usually a family trip so they pay for that too.

I have to buy my skis, boots ,bindings, poles and goggles.

My parents will help out with baselayers and outerwear. I just tell them i need to be warm and need to have different sets because i ski 30 hours a week atleast. They understand

They just dont understand why i need a pair of On3ps...

I bought my dad a pair of brand new Nordica Patrons about 2 weeks ago and couldnt hide the xmas secret lol so i sent him a pick...He went out and bought me a sweet nike gore tex pant jacket combo. keep in mind my parents find this stuff for like 75% off at Marshalls, honestly i dont know how they do it, theyre GYPSIESSS.

But i also found the nordicas for 299.

So its pretty mutual. im only 21... once i get older ill be buying everyone everything.

They did up until a certain point (around 17~ish I think) then I started buying it myself. Although I still get the occassional jacket or something for Christmas.

But then again I don't pay for much as it is. Got hand-me-down boots from a friend, my dad makes me skis, and interning for a ski company = outerwear for 'free'.

my parents buy my skis for me, but thats because every 2 or 3 years its my single christmas gift.


i do the research, choose the ski, and find the deal, they pay for it though. they also have paid for boots in the past but that's ended this year. i pay for everything else.



the only stuff they buy me in general anymore are skis, school clothes, food, and they pay for my education. everything else is me.
