Interesting facts you should know before election time!!!

There were 39 combat related killings in Iraq during the month ofJanuary.
In the fair city of Detroit there were 35 murders in the month of January.
That's just one American city, about as deadly as the entire war torn country of Iraq.

When some claim President Bush shouldn't have started this war, state the following ...

FDR...
-led us into World War II.
-Germany never attacked us: Japan did.
-From 1941-1945, 450,000 lives were lost, an average of 112,500 per year.

Truman...
-finished that war and started one in Korea,
-North Korea never attacked us.
-From 1950-1953, 55,000 lives were lost, an average of 18,334 per year.

John F. Kennedy...
-started the Vietnam conflict in 1962.
-Vietnam never attacked us.

Johnson...
-turned Vietnam into a quagmire.
-Vietnam never attacked us.
-From 1965-1975, 58,000 lives were lost, an average of 5,800 per year.

Clinton...
-went to war in Bosnia without UN or French consent, Bosnia never attacked us.
-He was offered Osama bin Laden's head on a platter three times by Sudan and did nothing. Osama has attacked us on multiple occasions.

In the two years since terrorists attacked US President Bush has ...
-liberated two countries,
-crushed the Taliban,
-crippled al-Qaida,
-put nuclear inspectors in Libya, Iran and North Korea without firing a shot,
-and captured a terrorist who slaughtered 300,000 of his own people.

The Democrats are complaining about how long the war is taking, but...

It took less time to take Iraq than it took Janet Reno to take the Branch
Davidian compound. That was a 51 day operation.

We've been looking for evidence of chemical weapons in Iraq for less time
than it took Hillary Clinton to find her Rose Law Firm billing records.

It took less time for the 3rd Infantry Division and the Marines to destroy the Medina Republican Guard than it took Ted Kennedy to call the
police after his Oldsmobile sank at Chappaquiddick, drowning Mary Jo.

It took less time to take Iraq than it took to count the votes in
Florida!!!!

i am not a bush supporter in the least bit, quite the contrary actually, but it is good to see someone, for once, back up his arguement. I seem to find very little of this on newschoolers, so i also give you kudos, like bush or not.

Everything you said about the lengths of time is retarded; all of those are measured from the time the war started, to when it 'ended.' There were still plenty of our kids dying after the 'end' of the war in Iraq. There still are US troops dying due to the war that was 'over' two years ago.


To address all of those preemtive strikes by other presidents...Iraq never attacked us, so you can go ahead and add him to that list of preemtive strikers.

In addtion to the fact it was a preemtive strike...shoudl we really compare our president to other president. For example, you cannot compare FDR putting us in WWII to Bush putting us in Iraq. WWII involved the lives of all people across the globe, whereas Iraq really only concerns Iraq and the US.

haha! those are selective observations. Maybe saying 'Iraq has never attacked us' would not sound as cool anymore, now would it?
Failing to mention that 'liberating' 2 countries means bombing the hell out of them, creating a lot of chaos, killing a lot of civilians, and turning half of the world against the US makes me wonder whether the words of praise are only a result of similar political standpoint, or the actual objectivity of the presented information

The figures are great, but even tho i am voting for GW, the facts are somewhat irrevelavant. About Vietnam not attacking us, of course they didn't, we were helping the french who started this war by trying to keep peace between the north and the south. Well france pulls out, and we are stuck with a mess to clean up. That was not the presidents fault.

Also the WWII thing. Japan attacked us, an we attacked them right back. Germany was a later thing, but still part of the same war, against communistic countries. If we didn't enter, it came really dam close to HItler ruling the world.

What I'm saying is, that Your NUmbers are great, but the little tidbits are somewhat misleading. I persoanlly think that Iraq was justified war. everybody did, even the democratic party did. But the way it was mishandled, is why the democrats are upset. It definatly could have been handled better, but why would you change the leader right in the middle of it? It would turn out to be the same thing as the first desert storm, in 1991. It needs to be carried through and done with.

i understand what you mean with the whole changing the leader thing, but when this have been fucked up this badly i think that one, bush doesn't deserve to be our president anymore, and two, a fresh perspective would help out a lot.

And kollac if you think that we 'turned Half the world agianst us' by liberating these 2 countries, you are sadly Mistaken. The French, (who fucked us over in Vietnam when we were trying to help them, same with WWII) can think what they want, but there propoganda filled media, and shit faced leader are idiots. The french havnt done shit to ever help anybody but themselves. Sorry but if helping somebody else is a crime, then so be it. Things like this, that have been bubbling for years on end take time to fix. Its not a one month ordeal. And when the situation is as hostile as it is, its going to take some force to do it.


In a land as old as the middle east, where the people have been fighting for centuries, keeping peace does not mean just sitting back and letting shit happen. If someone is knocked down, being brutally beaten by there own leader, you don't think its justified to help them? To keep peace it is going to take a force great enough to force the governemnt out of power and to start over. Keeping peace is an active job, to help the situation. Not just sitting back and allowing things to happen

As for the French never helping you...In WWI, when the US finally decided to help the Europeans, it was the French who taught the Americans how to fight the new kind of war (gas, trenches and so on). In fact, the US soldiers were so poorly equipped that the French had to supply HELMETS!!! The US later decided to use the British model, though.

I'm not sure but I heard this rumour about some policy of containment pursued by the US government during the cold war era. I also heard about north Vietnam being supported by the former USSR, and somehow I dared to think that the US wanted that war, because it would not accept the development towards communism... That might just be rumours, though...
Assholish French, they alway want to make the US look like a bully!

I thought this site was a group of kids that loved the outdoors? Does anyone understand the scientific war going on right now? Every repiutable groups of scientists are attacking this administration, urging him to change his policies. Please check out this website before cassting your vote. Go down to the bottom and take the time to read the full report, or just read the executive version. After you understand what is going on you will at least have a fair chance to vote for the right person, if you still believe that person is Bush then so be it. These findings are old news, and they surfaced midway through the administration.

this is really bad, wow...someone explain skiinsted that Germany had nothing, absolutely nothing to do with the communists during WWII I can't even laugh at something like that, it is just so wrong. Nazis does not equal to Communists. Hitler does not equal to Lenin...man! wake up! I used the example of WWI to show that the French di, in fact, help the US. The only time they didn't was in WWII. And if someone is contradicting oneself then it's you. I said that the French didn't cause your vietnam, because the US had its own reasons to go there (be it right or wrong), and you just totally listed reasons why the US did so. Not because of the French...

If Bush spent the amount of money he did on the war against terororism (not terror.. is is not possible to have 'a war agaist terror') to more valuble asspect such as education, helath care and so on... the benifits will be much greater then what he has achived in the war. The only positiv thing that has come is the capture of saddam. but was this worth it?

what im saying is bush could of saved those 39 life killed in war, and possibly saved many of the 34 in detroit if he had better priorites. its a sad sad fact the one city will have 34 murders in one mounth.. somthing needs to be changed

for Christ sake I majored in History! What are you talking about?! germany a part of the communist party (a country a part of a party?) and their allies communistic in nature? What the hell? Germany only had Italy and Japan (even that was only later on) Italy was fascist with Benito Mussolini in the lead. The fascist party platform composed of ridiculing the COMMUNISTS! Japan and communism doesn't even sound right together. Maybe they were 'communistic in their nature' but I want to see an explanation of that one. The other 'allies' Germany had were satelite countries that the german army took over...these include Czechia and Moravia which was turned into a protectorate; Slovakia, which was governed by a government under the 'protection' of Hitler's Germany; Poland, which was divided in 2 according to the secret Molotov Ribbentropp addition to the treaty between Stalin and Hitler, Austria, which was anected as early as March of 1938 (more than a year before the actual war); and France, which was taken within weeks...NONE of these countries were communistic in nature.

Look, you made an effort but... you're justifying a war my comparing random things that took a certain amount of time... It's about as plausible as justyfing a murder by doing the same thing 'Your Honour, I know I killed the guy, but 11 102 people did so in 2002 in the U.S, and it only took me 36 seconds, where as a woman named Ms.Brooks killed a woman in 36 minutes in Arkansas last year! Yes, I fact I did a great job'

As to comparing other presidents... you apparently know nothing about WWII, the U.S waged war on Japan on a very big scale, the pacific theater. You can't compare WWII and Iraq. Intervention was necessary, as well as in Bosnia (look it up). However, no one said that the Vietnam war or the Korean war were good military decisions... the fact of them being arguably bad doesen't make Bush's decisions better.

What to say about this thread... well, it's all been said before. But hey, now that I know your 'ineteresting facts', I must be completely prepared for the election! ...provided, that is, America is a one-party democracy. Vote republican.*

Well, then we have an issue. Because we're technically taught that Britain won the war of 1812 (all the teachers put that on their tests so they can mark people who put 'Canada won' wrong), but the majority of forces who fought in that war were born in the new world. So tough one to answer. If, however, you're arguing that America won, I can only argue the following:
When you attempt to invade a country, and they push you back, to such an extent that your borders are more or less unchanged, you (the invader) have lost the war. When you attempt to invade a country, and they incinerate your Capital... well, let's just say things didn't go so well for you.

yes J.D., I noticed the little incident with your hidden sarcasm...I guess I have to apologize for being sarcastic, if anyone did not pick it up...
I must say my history education could be labeled fair, to say the least. Back home (in Slovakia) we did not feel that our country has to look good in the textbooks, and that is why we got decent information (in fact, our country did not look good in the books...first organized state in central europe, the Moravian Empire, lasted from 863 until 907 AD. First the Huns destroyed the first Slavic state. They were followed (after they got their ass kicked at Lech in 955) byt the Avars who enslaved the poor Slavs once again...Some time after that, the Hungarians showed up and, guess what...they enslaved the Slavic people again...until 1918 when Wilson's 14 points were at least partially implemented, we did not ahve a sovereign country...) so yeah. This is all without research, and it's only a small chunk of what I had to know to for my history finals last year (they covered 4 years of curriculum). Please don't try to convince me that germany had relations with the communists...(yes hitler signed a treaty with stalin, but breached it in 1941 and even the original treaty wasn't about helping out...it was about staying out of the others business)

i was always under the impression that that war was against the brittish as well. its kind of hard for a certain nationality to be 'victorious' in conflict when that nation doesnt exist (nor will it exist for the following half century)

to say that things didnt go well in dc it certainly true... but that was about as far as it went... we all know what happened when the brits tried to roll up on baltimore... and in the south... and pretty much everywhere else....

but seriously, ive been told more times than i can count that 'canada won the war of 1812' by fully grown adults no less...

since we are already talking about some historical misrepresentations...why does every other american rip on the french for giving up? I'm pretty sure that not too many guys on here are familiar with the Prussian French war of 1876, which, indeed the French lost. But counting WWII that is only 2 major losses. The french won the 100 year war, and the 1st world war (yes the US helped, but it wasn't the kind of help as WWII) and one should also consider the circumstances of their loss in WWII. hitler's army was superior to anyone's at that time. The US included.

I believe the statistics are: Pre-Napoleon, 16 Wins, one loss. Post Napoleon, one win, 8 losses. The French haven't been doing so well since then. Of course, you could argue for the American Revolution as a French Victory. After all, the Brist surrendered to the French, not the Yanks.

I just know that's going to piss someone off.

By the way, Anew, Canada (or Canadas, to be more accurate) DID exist. It just wasn't a country yet. So you could make the argument either way. But seriously, the basic fact about an invasion of that type is that if you fail to gain territory, your invasion has been a failure. They were trying to conquer territory. They failed. This is my reasoning as to why they were the losers of the war.
