i dont really agree with this. technology has been progressing since the beginning of time. i mean, first there were stone tools, then bronze, then iron, then steel, etc. man kind has never really been stagnant.
but i get what you're saying. the rate at which we've been progressing seems to have been on hyper drive since the beginning of the industrial revolution. i think globalization plays a huge role in this as information is able to be shared SO much easier than any other point in history.
it's getting to the point where it's almost scary, and i wouldn't be surprised if it's ultimately man kinds undoing. so to try and answer your questions, no, I don't think it will ever stop as it is against human nature. and it'll likely continue until something catastrophic slams us back in to the dark ages. rinse and repeat.
