my friend got fucked over

This is a little story with a moral. I'll tell you the moral before I start: NEVER GIVE AWAY YOUR PIN! It is called a 'personal identification number' for a reason!!! it's so that people who are not you cannot access your personal stuff, such as money.

My friend is an exchange student from Thailand. He is supposed to be in Canada for one year. Apparently, he made a bet with a Canadian 'friend'. If he won, the Canadian 'friend' would deposit $40,000 CND into his ATM account. I know anything with the sum of $40,000 is fishy, but this kid isnt the sharpest tool in the shed. So my friend, being the genious that he is, gave the kid his ATM card and PIN number, because he won the bet (some stupid bet that he would obviously win). Now, the kid told my friend that if he told anyone, he would kill him. There's the next sign that you are doing something either stupid or illegal.

So, a couple days later, my friend goes to an ATM, and in his account is $40,000 CND. Only, the money he already had in there is gone. Vanished. Now I dont know much about anything, but when you have $40,000 because of a minor, $.50 bet, you tell someone. But my genious friend decides to spend a bit of this money before he tells anyone. Now, he has a little less than $40,000 in most likely dirty money (drugs, launder, stolen) and has been stiffed $600 US in clean money.

Have any of you heard of this happening in Canada?

no he can definitlely get dicked for money laundering, because the court wont believe he made a stupid bet and won $40,000, they will assume that he knew he was taking dirty money from the guy and they could dick him for it, money isnt just money if it comes from a dirty source

it is already halfway clean since he didn't deposit it and he had his money taken too. When questioned his only reply is where is my 600 dollars dammit somebody robbed me I thought I was spending my 600 not somebody else's 40g's. I am not from around here help me! He is a victim and should reap all benefits that come along with the situation. (ps I hope he doesn't get shot in the head)

if it's true, tell him to A) change his pin number and B) move it to a different account in as large of chucks as possible without it being looked at, I think it's like a 10,000 limit before it needs higher approval or something.

UPDATE!

Ok, here's how it turned out. Apparently, I got some bad info from his parents. Anyway, the kid is a phukin idiot. He gave his card AND pin to this kid, and the kid put two empty envelopes. He typed in that they both had $20,000 cash in them, and put them into one of those unmanned cash boxes. He took the $600 that was already in the account. So my dumbass friend gets his card back, and goes to an ATM. Yep, there's the 40Gs. So, he found out how the money was deposited, and went straight to the bank and told them what happened so he wouldnt get in trouble. Now, he's not in trouble, except that the bank feels he's too stupid to have the priveledge of having an ATM card, and he's also out $600 bones. The kid that took his money didnt fess up, and the police dont want anything to do with it considering it's only $600. So even tho my friend is an idiot that probably should be put out of his misery, it still sucks that somebody took advantage of him.
