Alright, I've been looking for a long time for a good turf to use on my backyard winter-time drop-in (so that it can be used when there's no snow:P). I've spent a lot of time looking through various forums, google searching.. but I can't seem to find an exact answer to my question: what type of turf exactly should I use?
you can get get it at home depot or lowes in the carpet section. its usually refereed to as indoor/outdoor carpet. its made of plastic hairs about 1/8" tall. it should cost about 50 cents or less per square foot.
as for construction fence, just buy the orange stuff thats plactic, cant go wrong.
heres my setup and you can see indoor/outdoor carpet and construction fence used in it.
I built a summer setup last summer, and and the top, I had just like a wooden box. The wooden box was the top of my drop in. I set up wood that went down from the wooden box, down a small hill, and a sort of jump at the end. I had stapled on just green astro-turf on top of the wood, but that didn't do shit by itself. So I hosed it down and put some soap on it. Still nothing; couldn't even make it off the jump. So I then stapled the orange construction paper with the holes (or whatever you want to call it), and hosed and soaped it down. I made it onto the rail, but the water had stuck to my skis and when I went onto the rail, I slowed down a ton and fell over myself. I gave up. But this year I plan on nailing PVC onto my drop in, it helps get more speed and your skis don't have to get wet. I recommend trying it with just PVC so you don't have to get your skis wet or soapy.
