Sorry Chaunceyskis, I couldn't wait to make the thread.

Post up videos of your favorite pros killing it, pics of some sick spots in your town, or videos of you landing a new trick, ask about tricks, give advice on tricks, discuss/review skates, and discuss the latest news in the world of aggressive skating!

Eventually, we could even use this thread for buying, selling, and trading parts or full skates.



First off, what are your thoughts on the beginning of powerblading? Kizer has just brought the concept into play in the aggressive rollerblading game with their new frames able to hold 4 80mm wheels while still allowing soul and negative plate grinds. Check the fourth and fifth edit for some powerblading shots.

Second, there is a lot of good advice on what type of skates suit you in this thread, as well as where to buy full skates/parts,(https://www.newschoolers.com/ns/forums/readthread/thread_id/615627/), all courtesy of a_pla5tic_bag

the only thing i gotta tell you is that the genesys are a hard shell skate. that means the outside of the skate is plastic, it's not like a shoe material. about 80 percent of skates are hard shells, but the nicer skates on the market right now are soft shells. i'm referring specifically to the USD carbon 1's, 2's, and 3's. if you have the extra money to spend, i'd recommend picking up a pair of the carbon 1's or the USD carbonfrees (made with a mixture of plastic and carbon to make it way less expensive). i have heard nothing but GREAT reviews of them, and the whole softshell idea apparently makes them super comfortable.

theres really no such thing as a "beginner" skate, only less expensive skates. if you have the money, you might as well buy one of the higher quality skates.


all that being said, i have nothing against hard shell skates, i skate hard shell skates myself and i find that they work perfectly fine.

pretty much all skates are hardboots. everything is a shell with a skin except xsjados, deshis (RIP) and I guess I'll count K2.

I'm getting some new frames because the stock ones on my blades suck, and I was wondering whether a normal frame with anti rockers or freestyle frames would be better. I do mainly street and my homemade rails as opposed to jumps and some rails.

but I will say it and say it again, you cant go wrong with an anti setup. flat is fun for park, but IMO freestyle just kills your style and ability to lock your grinds properly. i feel that if you must skate a freestyle frame, do so AFTER learning on a flat or anti setup.

four normal sized wheels on each skate. more wheels = more speed/smoothness which is why its fun for park. rather than an anti setup is two normal sized wheels on each skate and two plastic hard non rolling ones.

tiny weight loss, and your skates become a whole lot flexy/imo floppier. try it out on cuffs if you get new ones or something.

i dunno, i did it with my genesys 7.3, didn't cut the liners just cut the shell and only went about an inch down and i don't feel much of a difference in terms of flexiness/how floppy they are.

if you can't jump it's cause you have to stop skiing and start skating. skiers just like lift their whole body into the air. bend your knees and unleash all the power in all those big muscles.

Ya Instead of walking up or down small stair sets just jump them. My vert has increased by two inches just by being a good and jumping in and off everything aroun town

just got real excited cause i found the kizer powerblading stuff on aggressivemall.com but then i found out that the powerblading wheels still only come in sets of 4 soyou have to buy 2 sets if you want to rock 4 flat wheels on each skate
88 dollars total for wheels and 55 for the frame
damn

I have a few problems with one pair of skates I have from razors Genesys 7.3. The little velcro patch on the tongue where little pouch is is sticking through the liner and stabbing me even with thicker socks on and my soul plates are super tiny

i dunno what to tell you about the velcro... cut it off maybe? i haven't had that problem, maybe try adjusting it's positioning.

and the genesys 7.3 have huge soul plates, but not so big negative plates.

soul plate = outside of the foot
negative plate = inside of the foot

yeah most things have similar sized sole plates. except xsjados. that's just how big they are, you have to learn to land on them every time is all.

xsjados are bigger, especially the large shell. they hit the ground too often.

when you guys approach a RAIL, and plan on doing a soul grind, do you approach it at an angle or straight on (assuming in this circumstance, a straight on approach is possible)

the difference in size between one companies soul plates and anothers is minuscule. I would hardly take that into consideration when choosing a skate. also, chances are you dont need to worry about your negative plates at all. I have bladed for 10 years+ and only know 1 negative trick with some variations.

I have decided to simply use my 1000th post to bring this thread to the top of the page. 1000 may not seem like a lot to some but I'm pumped lol. It's a gorgeous day here in kalispell, mt and I'm going to go skate today. I've spent the last three days skiing my heart out so now it's time for the skates. if you have razor skates then there is a proper fitting allen key under the liner fitted into the plastic of the heel of the boot. they give you 2! wow what a bargain!

haha, the allen keys in razors, they still do that? i remember when the gen like... 2 or something started that. i think it was gens, might have been cults, or maybe the first dre powell skate.
