There's cheap gear, inexpensive gear, quality gear, and marked up gear.
Generally the marked up stuff is crap aimed towards the people with a bottomless wallet.
Inexpensive gear is price point stuff, stuff you can go and get, and it'll last you.
Cheap gear is just cheap stuff, usually lower QC, but they're able to make tons of it, and people will buy it.
Quality gear is what you want. You pay for what you get. More quality control goes into it, more effort goes into making it a piece of art. It generally lasts longer.
Once you are old enough to put away money for the skis you've wanted all year, you'll know why people get hyped.
could also just be you being overcautious...... when i buy cheap shit i dont care what happens to it and even if a new piece of gear or skis i get gets beat to shit, i still think it looks prime....whereas when i buy expensive shit a tiny chip or rip will get me going.
