Center mounting a non symmetric twin and effect on carving

So I have the K2 sight ski which is more of an all mountain twin that's decent at carving than a park ski, in 159 length. This year It was mounted at "traditional" which is about -7.5 from core center. The ski is directional so it doesn't the same sidecut going switch and apparently has some rocker in the front, but comparing it to the tails I can't see a difference.

Next year because I won't get to go out west, I will be skiing quite a bit more park and I know center mounted skis are much better in the park. Does anybody know if mounting a non symmetrical twin would totally screw up its carving ability? Because I still want to be able to carve well on midwest icy groomers.

yeah i read that wrong. and you would still be able to carve, it would just feel different. i would mount them at the balance point personally

I rode the Bluehouse MR center mounted, it's not a true twin but not too far off either. I never had a problem carving with them mounted center. I think you'll be fine especially since Sights are more park ski than carve ski anyway. You won't really be hurting the design of the ski.

you'll be fine but when you first mount to centre it may take time getting used too since you've never skied with centre mounted skis before. But you shouldn't really notice a difference between your skis and a fully symmetrical park ski, i know i haven't with my rossi s4's

To be honest if you are doing park you will mess up the carving ability anyhow

this. rails will destroy your edges, so it will be hard to get a grip and really carve hard. gotta choose: really good carving ski or centered park ski

If my geometric thinkin is correct, when you are on edge, and the ski is flexing, you will enable more flex from the tail. It's usually insignificant but it depends on how directional of a ski it is. If it's a ski with a far wider tip than tail, with very deep sidecut, you get the forklift steering effect, though less exaggerated. So it depends on the ski. I've center mounted 189 Seth Pistols one time as rock/rail skis, and they carved like shit with a funny fucking arc to them. Terrible idea on those. Would it fair to say anything over 5cm or more ahead of recommended on a directional or semi-twin is pushing it?

My park skis do fine holding their edge. I guess I have long park skis but the only edge detuning is underfoot so for the most part my edges still hook in when carving.

i have old k2 extremes that are really similar to your skis. i had them mounted at about 1 cm back and i love them. when i'm carving the tails hook sometimes, and since my edges are dull, they suck in general. but since i spend all my time in the park its not a big deal, considering how much better they perform in the park. so basically you need to choose which is more important to you: carving well or park performance?

what they mean is that you need to choose between rails and being able to carve really well. It has nothing to do with your mount at this point. You'll be fine at centre, its just whether or not you want to hit rails. I ski about 80% park and when i take my skis out of the park i don't notice a difference really.

Well even though I'm going to be getting into park more it will probably be more jumps than rails, just because I think they are more fun. Does having a center mounted ski makes spins substantially easier than where mine is now? Or just a little bit, because if its only a little I might just leave them.

I think having it center mounted or close to will help out landing, but if your ski has a stiffer tail that will help a lot as well.

To answer your question, unless your doing really big spins, it's not a night and day difference. You will notice the worsened carving ability by centering them, especially on ice where you need a predictable ski, more than you will notice an improved ease of spinning. That's just from my experience. As someone posted, a stiffer tail can be good, so keep shredding what you've been shedding.
