My suggestion would be to learn how to at least try and type like you're in college.

It depends what sort of design you want to do. If you want to design posters and advertisements then graphic design is for you. If you want to design objects, particularly productive tools, furtiniture etc then industrial design. If you want to design much more complex things then just about the most creative thing in the world is engineering. If you want to design cities and steetscapes then urban design (a subset of urban planning which is what I did my Masters in) is for you.
