I live in the twin cities, does anyone out there live here too? If you do, where do you ski locally ? (buck hill, highland hills, afton, wild mountain welch. . .) What place do you think has the best park and pipe?
I ride at Hyland Hills, Thats where the scene is at right now, Unless you can get to tyrol basin, WI. those two places are kicking it more than anywhere else. Check out hyland. I'll probably be there dicking around, might be jumping who knows.
I live in Coon Rapids. I buy a season pass to spirit every year because they are so damn cheap and they have the best park and pipe and everything else. spirit rocks.... and black bear casino and hotel is only 20 min away which is a nice party place for us minors.....only 25 degrees away from snow....cant wait...
i wish i could get over to hyland, but it's twice as far away for me than afton alps is. There's almost nothing going on at afton, it's mostly just little kids in the park who don't even know how to ski. aghhh. what does hyland have in the way of rails?
hey rob I know what you're talking about...nobody skis, and the snowboarders aren't even any good. I saw a kid do a backflip once, that's the coolest thing I've ever seen there (then again, I could be better and progress the 'scene' around here, but I suck too). depending on where you live, you could go to Badlands snowboard park. it's near Hudson, WI. it's all rope-tow though, but they have some rails and stuff.
Well, all you MN skiers, what we've gotta do is go out there to Afton and show all those little punk snowboarders what's up!! Work on your tricks and go off and nail some sweet jumps, do 360's! 720's! Flips!! I dunno! Something huge and make the whole crowd go 'oooooo' heh and if that doesn't work just go huge and totally wipe out so we can all laugh at you cuz that's almost as fun!
Yeah!! And also petition to get a decent pipe (one that ISN'T on the bunny hill where you get no speed) and to be able to kick all the sucky people out who can't even make it off the jumps, and to build some decent jumps that don't have a foot-deep canyon from people landing.
What's the best thing for a couple of cheapos to build rails out of that'll stand up? I guess the two things I've seen are metal and wood, and I've also heard of PVC pipes. I'm guessing that PVC and wood are the cheapest, but which one would hold up longer?
Have any of you been to Giants Ridge? They have, undisputedly one of the best parks in the Midwest. The Pipe is one of the top in the nation and so is the grooming. If you haven't been there, check it out this season.

I've been to Giants Ridge once or twice, I went to a little racing thing there. It's always been early in the season though so I've missed the jumps and stuff. Well maybe this winter I can change that now that I can mooch of my friends for rides :-D
