So I don't know if anyone already does this or if this has ever been done on here before but I'm going to assume not.

Basically anyone on here can play, it's just a fun, good realistic stock market game for all you finance majors out there. Anyone can play its just for fun but if it catches on maybe we can set up a prize of some sort.

Start with $200,000.00. Game goes on for a year (2/15/2012 - 2/13/2013) so I'm hoping this catches on!! Goodluck to anyone who joins. There are more detailed rules on the sight.

haha so many people got fucked today... start out buying something with low volatility to get a solid base. then since its not real money fuck around a bit. currently sitting in 4th interested after the risk I just took tonight to see what happens in the morning.

dude dont be a wuss, keep it at a year. This thread can easily be kept alive with ranking updates and stuff.... 105 days is no where near enough to do solid investing.

We should do this in some fashion where everyone pays somewhere between $5-$10 and then we do a real market game and the winners get payouts. That would keep everyone active and interested. I would be willing to organize it all.
Idk about everyone else but its hard for me to take this game serious because of the lack of reason to put a lot of time into it, I invested all my money in a single company and bought around 24,000 shares.... so its a hit or miss, either I can double in the next 100 days or totally crash. No need for diversity.

Intro to Business? Strange that they would use a stock simulator since stocks are a very very specific portion of finance. Especially assuming you cover management, marketing, finance, accounting, and some sort of operational organizing. I'm in.

For all those who invested in Apple... why? You can't really think they will acheive 200%+ appreciation in 100 days time? You're going to be making a dollar a share by the time the contest is through which isn't shit. Here's my advice for anyone without much experience in stock picking contests. Go for risk, ie go for companies that have a lot of potential but may be very small currently. You will never win picking a big company that everyone already knows about unless the company has some other-wordly product about to be released. Find a small company that has potential to expand quickly.

i agree, everyones going at it recklessly and some are just getting lucky. for it to be serious and have some diversity like you said, there needs to be an incentive. its a real fun game so far though ive been addicted to it not going to lie. 19th place and made $3,000 with a diverse portfolio. i wish this was real money now

You are right, which is upsetting. I hate that a speculator will probably win. Speculators =/= investors. Also, apple is a good stock for someone who is going long term.

Side note: Penny stocks are evil and 99% of people lose money day trading.

Exactly, I think Apple is a solid, long-term stock to add into a diversified portfolio. For a stock picking contest with a short time frame though you've basically got to throw all of your money at a single company with lots of risk that you think will appreciate generously over the time frame. If you lose, you lose badly, but at least you've given yourself a chance to win. This is not investing. But then again, its pretty much impossible to lengthen the time frame as people will lose interest quickly, especially on a skiing forum.
