It's tough because it depends how you look at "deserve" because he's really fucking good and works pretty hard to be at his level, but I don't think the run was a perfect score. So i voted no, but still kinda think yes.

he deserved to win (his run was hands down the best of them all) and he was the last rider so it didn't even matter how much he got, if he had won by how much doesn't really make a difference...
yes, giving him a perfect score might have been a bit of a publicity stunt but it didn't hurt anyone and his run was indeed quite smooth + he should get extra points to compensate for the ass ugly pants...

6points = much more publicity/hype and you're not really hurting anybody with it ...

Point is, he might stay as the only 100 pointer halfpipe athlete ever, doesn't matter if the result gets trumped by tricks, execution or style, but if future judges won't give out another one-oh-oh it will give that guy a slip on the wild side that he may not have fully deserved.

No denying that the guy is an amazing athlete, skate, snow, you name it. But that hundo was only given out as you said, because of more publicity and hype, which will only hurt any other contender in the sport in the future.

IMHO, but yeah. This is how I feel.

well, then we reach the point where people should face the fact that x-games is one huge publicity carrousel ...
not that there's anything wrong with it, it's an awesome event but stuff like this is what the people want to see and the organisation/judges are simply supplying to the demand ...

i really don't have any problem with this, it's pretty much the same for when bobby brown scored a 100 in slopestyle ...

I can honestly say that I missed that BB thing. Saw it in Smith ads some months later, so I'm not as invested, but to see, as you said as well, Ryo who throws down on every hit, get dwarfed by White who checks not one, but TWO straight airs in his run, and on a winning runn compile a perfect score while having distinct issues, like landing on his tail off ablacne on one hit, and hitting hands on the snow in the last hit, it makes me wonder and it surely makes other contestants wonder... "Why even try?"

...because instead of actually sending a well thought out message, you're getting a bunch of teenage SKIERS, who don't even give a shit about snowboarding to simply vote no on a poll that will change absolutely nothing. I just think it's obnoxious that NS feels so compelled to do something about the judging of one snowboard halfpipe run. 90% of the kids who are hating probably didn't even watch the pipe final, and don't even know why they hate Shaun White, Burton, or snowboarding in general. It's just another bandwagon for little skier kids to hop on, and it will all be forgotten in a month. I can guarantee that if Rolland, Dorey, Wise, etc threw down a sick run and got a 100 for it, NS wouldn't care, and the snowboarding community sure as SHIT wouldn't care. Certainly not enough to cause an uproar and go ranting on ESPN's Facebook wall, swaying votes on the internet, whining and crying about it in every thread in a forum, etc. It's just frustrating to see arguably the best freestyle snowboarder in the world get hated on so hard for everything he does by a bunch of little kids who don't even know who he was before he developed this new "persona" (which I agree, is a bit over the top). So he didn't deserve a 100 in the pipe, BIG FUCKING DEAL. Everyone just needs to let it go. The score is set, it's not going to change, and guess what? Next year, when he dominates everyone yet again, they'll give him a 99 instead. Can't wait to see NS go apeshit bananas and claim that "no run is worth a 99, that's pretty much perfect!!!!!" I've spent way too long beating this dead horse, so I'll try to stay out of the Shaun White threads from now on and leave the little kiddies to their business.
