So Ive been hitting the gym hard lately and I want to make my time there more effective. Many of my friends take pre workouts and the dudes at the gym push em but they are salesmen so here I am asking the all knowledgeable newschoolers for advice. Do you take em? Why/Whynot? Do you find they work? Have you ever experienced any side effects. That is all!

i don't agree with ecb about milk. i've listened to alan aragon and he says it's stupid to take milk out of your diet and even only eating egg whites and discarding the yolk. sounds like a whole lot of bro science, ecb.

as for preworkouts, i just eat a solid meal. i keep the supplements i use to the basics. not sure if i will ever try the aforementioned brands though. maybe. right now i'm satisfied with a whey blend, creatine, and oats.

my roommate body builds and this is exactly what he does

lots and lots of eggs, creatine, whey blends, and oats


basically he eats huge, healthy meals and then throws in some creatine every night

i don't do the creatine at night. i just do a glass of milk and a spoon of peanut butter.

And to answer your question why you shouldn't eat dairy, I can answer that with a question, Why should you?


There are no benefits to eating dairy, no nutrients that you can't get elsewhere. The only benefit is that you like the taste, which is in fact a legit reason to eat dairy. But that's it.

ok i'm a runner and gatoraade is an advertising scheme, you dont need to replenish carbs uless your running a marathon and all gatorade is is sugar and water + flavoring. I'd agree on protien shakes like whey protien and muscle milk.

Also really depends on what you want from your pre-work out. Some pre-workouts out perform others in certain areas.

For example if you want the best pump you can get I would suggest Superpump 250.
For energy and focus the 2 best I have tried are 1MR and Lean Revolution (currently on this)

The only pre-workout I really didnt like or see much of a difference with is Jack3d.

preworkouts are to working out what adderall is to studying.

you do just fine without it, but you take it once and you realize that you have been a lower level the whole time. its hard to go back down to that lower level, and then soon enough that higher level becomes the new norm.

and not that "legal" bullshit. Get some real gear and watch your muscles grow.


Shit works unbelieveably well. Ive had workout partners who were weaker and smaller than me blow me away in terms of muscle gain and strength in a matter of weeks. As long as you know what you are doing, and stack the correct stuff in the right dosages, its completely safe.

True. But if I really would ever juice I would try to get to my natural peak first, then push the limits by juicing. That's how you go from natural to pro-untested. Ronnie Coleman, Kai Greene, Dexter Jackson all did the same thing.... seeing their young picture are incredible how big they were.

but i fully agree...with one exception.


If i had some kind of event coming up like a heli trip to AK, i would get on some gear just to boost my strength up so i would feel confident going for bigger stuff in bigger terrain.

Forgot Jay for sure, as well as Heath. He is a monster. I am actually just starting a bulk stage, I am going to try to shoot for my first competition next spring.... so a solid 10 or so months of mass gain then dieting down. Pretty excited to see what I can turn myself into...

I usually just eat insects to get my protein. Usually 2 cockroaches, and a caterpillar or two before my work out and I eat stag beetles after words for that insane protein blast.

do yourself a favor and go to bodybuilding.com, its basically the NS of working out....u wouldnt ask a bodybuilding forum what the best ski for ur style is would u? this thread is full of some shitty advice and some pretty good stuff...but because u have literally no idea whats right from wrong, just go to bb.com

IMO, Pre-workouts are not that beneficial unless you train hard and are looking for that extra pump to get your size up a couple notches. I don't use them, all I use is protein shakes after workout (cheaper than buying chicken breasts) and the rest of my macros I get from just a regualr diet. But thats kind of off topic. if you are just trying to get fit, I feel you don't need them, but to each their own, it's all a matter of personal preference. Try it out and worst comes to worst you sell it to a friend for half price.
