Binding screws drilled too deep?

My friend just got his new skis back from mounting, and on the base right under where the screw is there's a lump. He wanted to know what to do with them and asked me for help. I don`t know whether he should just ride them, or bring them back to the shop. They are brand new, and just got mounted, both the skis and bindings were bought there.

Take them back to the shop...that's a HUGE failure on their part and they should be liable for it...those skis are basically ruined...

take it back to the shop were got them mounted. If they are legit they should hopefully replace the ski, because it is their fault. But if not it is a supper easy fix, all you have to do is unscrew the screws. Then you heat up the bass a little, after that place a metal ruler on top of the bump, and finally you take a hammer and just bang it as hard as you can until the bump goes down in size.... this should be used as a last resort if the ski shop doesn't do anything about the skis.

I was thinking the same thing. I`m gonna go with him to the place Saturday. They should fully replace the skis, correct?

Wouldn`t they have to redrill the skis then? I didn`t know they could remount in the same holes and it seems like replacing would be the best decision if not.

Yeah some bindings come with screws that are maybe a smidgen too long for skis with slimmer cores. I don't think they 'fucked up' as suck, maybe just didn't think about it.

When I got my last 2 pairs of pow skis mounted (EP Pros and Hellbents) both had some slight "nipples" under the heelpiece screws... we just backed them out then took a couple of millimetres off the bottom and they were fine.

I'm going with him Saturday to hopefully get them replaced. What kind of risks does he face riding them on rails, jumps etc with that. Basically to help him form an argument against them so they don't just tell him its fine, go ski them, and he ends up messing them up. Also should he settle if they offer to just repair it, or should he demand they replace them for "x" reasons.

They should have checked everything to avoid this but it happens sometimes and it's an easy fix and not a big deal. Take them back to the shop and let them fix them.

Coming into your shop ready for a fight an demanding a new set of skis is a terrible idea. I'd guarantee that being civil and understanding will give you a better deal with your situation. Think about it - customer comes in all pissed and livid, shop worker figures that afterwards they'll never come back, so why be helpful past whats required. Customer comes in friendly and understanding, shop tech sees potential for customer service points and goes the extra mile.

Besides, people who work in shops are generally cool peeps... be nice to your shop employees!

I know I understand that. By argument I meant him saying why he requires repairs/replacement. But thanks, that's a good reminder since he's said he's pissed and I'd rather him get his skis fixed, then him just get satisfaction by yelling at them.

Also he got his skis at sportchek, so I wouldn't consider it a ski shop...or a place where you'd meet cool employees that shred as well.

i wouldnt go in trying to fight with them. but there are some problems that could arise from that. the base is sticking out in that one spot, so eventually you could wear through the base to the screw. the core is compromised so you could break the ski easier. and more than anything (imo) you paid for a service, so you should be able to expect it is done right and doesnt ruin your equipment

PLEASE take this into account.

I had a pair of EP Pros that got a similar dimple. I took them back to the shop. They pulled the binding, re-drilled the holes, made sure the screws were the right lengths, re attached the heel piece, and gave me a half price anything voucher, and free waxing and tuning for the rest of the season.

I never asked for a refund, just simply asked what they could do. I was polite and patient, and never blamed or asked. The guy was really nice, apologetic, and basically dropped everything on a busy day to make it right. The skis ended up being just fine after fixing, and I got free shit!

This. Definitely ask what they can do for you. Don't demand anything. Chances are they will take care of you and fix it up for you.

The ski is definitely not ruined and can be fixed. Your friend will be shredding and enjoying his skis in no time.

The ski is not ruined. I had this happen to me last year. This can sometimes happen if they don't shake out the dust and stuff that they drilled out of the hole.

In my case, I went in, showed them the problem, they apologized, fixed it, and gave the skis a hot wax on top of it. Oh, and they also gave me a coupon for another free wax and the ski looked as good as new. This messup is not worthy of an entire ski replacement.

but looking again at the pictures, for me I could see the tip of the screw sticking out of the base, but definitely see what they can do for you

If we did that you'd have new skis, however you wouldn't find out as we should have spotted it first. Take them back, you'll be fine!

if you got the skis at sport check, demand new skis and say il take the bindings in the box and get them mounted at a real shop. those guys are boarder line retarded and at a shop like that they can just give you another pair because they bring in so many from the companies

Everyone FUCK OFF.

A dimpled base is no cause for new skis. You are a douche if you expect new gear for every little mistake.

The shop should at least fix it, if not refund your original mount as well, but in NO WAY should they buy you new fucking skis! These skis are perfectly fine, and will still retain 100% of their product life and usability!

If you think a dimpled base warrants a new pair of skis, I have some bad news. Your wrong, and, your a dick jacket.

My lizzies had dimples when they were mounted, the shop gave them a basegrind and they were fine. They did this all and told me when I picked them up. It's not a big deal.

We brought them in, asked what they could do about it. There gonna replace his skis, so he's just gotta wait till they order them in and until then he"s skiing those. Took us maybe 20 seconds

THAT is actually a little sketchy. It thins out the base material where there is now a screw/epoxy interruption. Not very cool.
