Could it possibly have been that the binding had slipped back while you were riding or that you had snow/ice jammed into it?
For the physics behind it though is that the plastic is a semi-crystaline material and therefore is subject to approximately has a range of from 0.005 in/in to 0.010 in/in of shrinkage and as well is subject to isotropic shinkage which is equal shrinking in all directions. Therefore if your ski boot was 4 feet long it may make a dramatic difference however seeing as the scale of your ski boot i would be doubtful that it would be noticeable.
