Full Tilt Heat Molding Questions

Would it be a bad idea to use a hair dryer to heat up my liners just a little bit so they heat mold a faster? I wouldn't go crazy with the hair dryer. and no i don't have a shop near me to do it (yes I have tried on the boots before)
Also, when heat molding a the liners do you leave the liners in the boots or take them out?

By heat molding i mean when you put your foot in. I know that you don't put the whole boot in the thing they use to heat it up.

If they are this year's just ski in them and the new liners will actually mold to your foot faster than last year's models.  It will take a couple days of skiing in them but your natural body heat will form the boot in the shape it needs to change to.  

Avoid using a blow dryer or oven.

this is true, but i have been told that cooking the liners properly are still a better way to go.

i know you said you don't have a shop nearby though, so i understand this isn't an option

Ok, so I sorta lied. There IS a shop nearby, but I didn't buy the boots from them. I just don't really want to take the boots there to get them heat molded cuz id feel like a total dick. Should I just go for it?

Go for it.

Get it done the proper way, and it'll save the hassle of doing something that you're not comfortable doing. Don't forget to bring your ski socks.

If you end up feeling bad, just tip the shop guy, or buy something from the store.

DO NOT USE A HAIR DRYER!!!

I did it once with a pair of Atomic boots and it didn't go well. I accidentally melted the tongue a bit. Either get the shop to do it or just ski in them.

I've heard of people heating up (uncooked) rice in a microwave, then putting it in a sock then sticking that in their FTs to heat mold

I feel that's a lousy idea and solves nothing. The idea of a heat mold is so the liner fits more naturally to your foot and leg. But, I might also be compelety wrong

You just spent a lot of money on new boots, don't chince out on making them fit properly. Spend the $20-40 to get them heat molded by a fit technician who will dial you in. It will be well worth it.

When I bring them into the shop do I need the boots and the liners or just the liners? Thanks for the help everyone!

bring both in because they will put the liner in the boot warming oven and then put it back in the shell with your foot in it once it is warm. definitely go to a shop cuz if you mess up the liner it will be 150-200 for a new pair of intuitions and chances are a professional boot fitter will do a better fit than an at home molding

Molding the outside of the liner to the boot is almost as important as molding the inside to your foot. It locks the liner in, and fills in empty spaces between the liner and the shell that would otherwise cause your foot to slide around in the shell. If that makes any sense. Plus, the liners expand when they heat up, so if you heated them, then let them cool outside of the boot, they probably wouldn't even fit in the boot. and If they did, it would warp the liner and mess up the inside impression of your foot anyway.

In other words: Get it done right the first time. go to the ski shop, but bring them a 6 pack for their troubles.

Take them to a shop and get footbeds. I suggest the cork superfeet footbeds. It's not worth it to have to stop skiing because your feet hurt.

definitely take them to a shop, make sure the guy knows what he is doing and isnt a total goon who just heats them up and gives them to you. make sure you get some sort of footbed since FT's do not come with one.

dont be afraid to point out any pressure points. and I would ask for a toe cap, i did one of my FT's and the liner is still pretty tight in the toe box.

that is how intuition says to home mold their liners, if you have ordered a pair you get directions for that process with them.

So I got bought my boots at the beginning of last season, and got them heat molded and they were fine all season, but while hitting my summer set up, my left arch began to hurt after about 15 minutes. My idea is to take them in, get them re heat molded, and get a custom footbed. My question is, is getting the heat molded for a second time a good idea? I figured my foot would have grown a changed a little and that might be the problem.

not a bad idea at all, especially since you are probably still growing and your foot is changing. it will shorten the life span of the liner by a few days.

Seeing how the factory insole in a Full Tilt is basically a piece of cardboard with some fabric on top a custom footbed will go a long way to making your boots more comfortable.

Once you've got the footbed you'll have to re-cook the liners as the whole relationship of your foot to the boot will change with a footbed.

As above, make sure the guy fitting them does it with a toe cap and I'm about 80% sure you're supposed to do at least the first part in a standing, slightly flexed position so the liner is the same shape it will be when you ski.

It wouldnt really be the best of ideas. I would recomend putting them in the oven for heat molding. Some people use microwaves, but I have heard in some cases the liners actually catching fire from a microwave. You could also just ride in them and just from riding in them they will heat up to some degree and form a mold. If you decide to go with the oven idea you want to make sure that you take the liners out of the boots. Put them back in after heating them up, then stick your feet back in them for around 8-12 minutes or until they are at a cool temp.

Well I went into my local shop tonight, and they pretty much told me, I should not re heat mold them after I have once and skied on them all season, and you cant put a custom foot bed in my boot. (drop kick).
Opinions?

Well your shop sounds pretty shitty because their a bunch of liars. Intuition says on their site that it is ok to remold up to 3 or 4 times. Also you can put a custom footbed in any liner, thats why its custom, I have hot doggers and my brother has drop kicks both have superfeet footbeds.

Go elsewhere, never go back. WTF. My old flatmate has a pair of Dropkicks with footbeds, that (shock horror) he has cooked twice.

Somehow they don't know what they're talking about.
