SNOW: freeride/freestyle skiing game

SNOW is the first true freeride and freestyle game for skiers and snowboarders. Based on the free-to-play model, SNOW looks to restart the winter sports genre taking the player back to basics refining scale, physics and controls to capture the majesty of the mountain. SNOW is a game for riders, by riders.

SNOW will be released for free later this year and developed according to feedback from the community.

Interface looks rad, not to beat a dead horse, but more emphasize the fact that we need cool parks. I don't like the score as it is, but im sure it will turn out in the final product.

If you need tips, ask malcolm, hes the only one to have provided any actually tangible product. That being said, looking forward to this!

Freeride and Descent will be similar to most Big Mountain competitions like the Freeride World Tour. We can also combine event scoring systems so that some events will judge you on a combination of time and tricks.

Freestyle in a the snow-park would be the same as a slopestyle course. We decided not to call the event type slopestyle as it might confuse people when used more generally.

If you have any ideas for events, I recommend you head over to our forum and share your thoughts!

I'm super stoked and will very likely support this!

I have a few suggestions/opinions I'd like to throw out there:

1. Make sure to look at A LOT of skiing/snowboarding movies and get inspired by them.
2. Make it as realistic as possible. It would be cool if it had a similar feeling to EA: Skate.
3. The more character customization options = the better.
4. Add session markers!

If you guys need help with Graphic design and music, those are two of my passions and would love to contribute any way I can.

A company like this, doing coding like this, doesn't need your shitty graphic design shit. What the fuck were you going to graphically design for them? The logo? Oh yeah, lets leave the logo up to kid on NS. No.

And with your "music production" I doubt a game like this will want your shitty, repetetive beats and stupid loops and dubstep drops.

hey guys I really love all the ideas and concepts you have!
I have one minor suggestion though: it would be super sick if you could make the freeride contest in a way that it is not only based on the time. If you watch a freeride contest, you realize that this is not the most important point in a competition, but rather picking out the most creative line is. I realize that this is very hard to put into practice in a game. maybe it would work when you take the most often skied lines on a map and save them, so everytime when somebody leaves these lines, they get bonus creativity points!

Yes, the mountain offers a full 360° of open-world explorable terrain including back country and piste/park. As we complete more of the mountain we will be sharing it with you, so stay tuned!

How will the crashing and physics work? Will it be like skate where you slam different everytime or will you have a distinct set of falls each time? Also will you be able to lose your skis when you fall, like they rip off? You should also be able to take off your skis and hike rails and stuff and set markers. That could be awesome. And really try to implement us here on the NS community alot in this game, we can provide the best feedback. Let us try the game early and just update it with patches and things like that. I believe this game can be like Skate if we all just work togheter, the graphics and game itself is looking sick, cant wait! You guys are doing an awesome job!

If you crash, it will be like SKATE, where you enter a "ragdoll" state. Your body will then be left to physics and the terrain to decide where it goes. If you fall, your skis will come of yes. Eventually we'd like to have a yard-sale if you fall really hard.

We are doing our best to keep NewSchoolers involved and up to date with the latest development of SNOW. Though we keep this thread up to date and try to answer any questions posted here, we do have a forum on our website where we can talk more about the game specifics. Check it out here.

I'm not exactly sure what you're going for, but making it like a story mode would be awesome. Like, there could be all sorts of different contests that lead to the Olympics or something. And then make different branches like Racing, Moguls, Slopestyle, Halfpipe, Aerials (Get at me). And then there could be other stuff like sponsorships, meeting pros, movie appearances. Basically, make the game as big as possible with a lot to do.
