If you've got a wide foot, give them look (the other boots you are looking at are good options for wide feet as well).

From a feature/benefit standpoint, our liner has 10mm of silicon behind the heel to help cushion your heel on switch landings, as well as 3mm of EVA foam under the heel. Obviously, if we just slapped 10mm of cushioning behind your heel it would make the boot feel shorter, so we engineered a special heel cup that allows the liner to fit normally. This idea came straight from the input of our riders, specifically Andreas Hatveit who wears the boot on a daily basis.

The shell also automatically expands to the width of your foot. This helps for obvious fit reasons, but also on landings when your foot flattens and splays in the shell. Your foot now has somewhere to go besides smashing into hard plastic.

That's just some of the features behind the boot, but as always... get what fits you the best.

I tried a pair last year.

They are super comfy and wide enough for my fat feet.

The flex was strange though. hard to describe. sort of like not very consistent, but would flex to a certain point and then slam down hard. Almost like the SPK's. And the opening on the side tripped me out when i hockey-stopped and my foot basically kept sliding sideways.

I'd go for the FT's if they fit well. I'm riding booters this year, I'll see how they compare.

That would mean you were leaning on the outside of your foot, on your downhill edge in order to stop...? But anyway, if your foot is the right width for that boot, then you shouldn't have any lateral movement. Sounds like it may have been too wide of a boot for your foot shape.

yeah, the boots were A little too big. I only tried them for a day. still the best choice is to try on all three of those boots. they are sure to all fit differently

I think I should post my little review here, cause onenerdykid gave me good tips before I bought these boots. These are previous year Overloads, the dark ones. They have flex 90, whereas this year Overloads I think have flex 100.

Before I bought them, I tried several boots on, but these felt much better and I liked the way they looked more. Now I've been skiing for around a month in them, park only (jumps, rails) and the only drawback that I've encountered by far is that the buckles are a bit too wide and catch the slope very easy. So I've bent the bottom buckle on one boot, it still works fine, but still IMO it can be improved. Other than that I like everything in this boot - flex feels pretty natural and forgiving, I've backseated couple landings and did some tail presses but never had any shin pain ), landed flat couple of times, it still hit hard but my heels didn't hurt after. Also it's pretty easy to put them on, unless they've been standing outside in cold for a long time. The live fit liner also works well, I had one pressure point on the outside of my ankle, but after two days of skiing it was gone. I got them for 250$, in september, shipped straight to the doors. So for me best value for money! ) But bear in mind, boots are for wide feet!!!

I dont want to sound like a dick and i see you're an expert on boots so i'm probably going to be put in my place, but aren't full tilt and salomon boots notoriously narrow fitting?

no worries man, almost every company has a bunch of different lasts (foot shapes). So, Full Tilt has narrow and wide, Salomon has 6 different foot shapes, Atomic has 7... most companies have a variety in their arsenal.

dude the shockilla liner in the atomic freestyle boots are def a game changer, i would always have sore heels from hard switch landings in my salomons, not to say they wernt a great boot, but the shockilla liner with the heel pad is super cush

I change my mind about these boots. I got into a smaller size, (the right size) and they are sick as hell. I owned Full Tilt Booters for a while, but had to sell em because there was no getting around the fact that they were still too narrow.

So I bought the Overloads (originally my second choice.) Anyway these boots are damn comfy, and fairly soft. I don't know where the 100 flex index rating comes from, because these are just as soft as the Booters.

Still the only problem with them is that when you flex them all the way, the upper cuff hits the lower part of the shell where the buckle connects and the flex stops right there, preventing further shock absorption when landing. Though as I understand it most 2 piece boots do this?

The fit is pretty big. I had size 27 SPK's last year, and this year I've found the 25.5 Overloads to fit about the same. In other words: buy them small.

The bottom line: They are good boots if you can afford them.

I have experienced this too. Riding on a steep slope, the buckle will catch the uphill side of the snow, and the sudden feeling of having your boots unbuckled is unsettling. It's really not that big of a deal, but It would make a good improvement.

Yes I am aware of how old this thread is. Bumping because I have been searching a lot and have found very little input or real reviews on these.

Tried on the overload startups (same shell as these) to get a feel for the fit, and I've finally found a boot that fits me perfectly and is wide enough for my forefoot. Obviously the start ups were way too soft with the 70 flex, but at a 100 flex I'm pretty sure these would be stiff enough but not overly stiff.

Anyone who has these boots or has ridden them please share your thoughts, would love to get some feedback.

If it fits well, and has the right flex for you, it will work.

Atomic boots ski really well. I skied in a pair of m110s with Inuitions and WC Boosters, and they were a great boot for my skiing. Smooth, even flex, replaceable buckles, grippy soles, and they looked like the plug boot.

I've switched out because I couldn't get enough instep height in them, even after multiple visits to my bootfitter. It's still a great boot though, just not for my foot.

Yes it fits me really well, finally found something that works with my insanely wide foot. As for the flex I think it'll be on the softer side, but I can always stiffen it up with boosters if that's an issue.

Just have some concerns about how even and smooth the boot flexes and about the two buckle system. (lack of a buckle to really hold my heel nicely in the heel cup). I've had some lange boots previously that flexed nicely and then after a certain point just stopped.

Hoping to get some feedback from people who have used the boot and can give a good critical review based on their on hill experiences.

Just some notes about the heel hold for you. The width of the forefoot is 102-6mm, but it uses the same heel as our Hawx, which is a 100mm boot. So it is by no means a sloppy fit.

On top of that, we reinforce the liner with extra layers of foam in crucial areas ensuring a good heel lock.

eheath has a pair of the Live Fit 120 (same shell and cuff but a higher end version) so you could PM him for some details on how the boot skis/flexes.

The Overload 100 has a unique insert on the heel of the liner that provides more shock absorption on switch landings. The Live Fit series does not have this.

So, Live Fit 120 does not have the Shockilla Liner (heel insert) but it has a denser construction and more ankle retention built into the liner.

Hi Guys - I'm new here, so sorry for popping in with a question on day one. I dreamed about the SPKs for years and finally got to the point of buying them this winter, but they turned out to be way too small/low in the instep. I did some research and the Overloads have the opinion of the most comfortable boot, but largely due to the wide last, the instep isn't mentioned. Could you please let me know how they fare in the instep department or suggest some alternatives?

I just got a pair of the 100-flex Atomic Overloads today. I have wide feet and a long big toe, and the Overloads and Atomic LF 90 were the only boots that felt tight and comfortable at the same time. Fit-wise, these two felt quite similar. If you can't find an Overload to try on, try the LF 90 and it will probably be close.

While boot shopping, I found several boots that crushed my instep, particularly the Salomon Ghost 90. Based on the boots I tried, I would say that the Overloads do not have a small / tight instep area. I didn't try the SPK because the boot fitter said it was a poor choice unless you are a hardcore 100% park kind of guy (and I am not).

I tried the Full Tilt Booter and Salomon Impact 100. Both felt just a bit narrower than the Overload and didn't have the same space in the toe box. No instep problems in either. The full tilts had a super-nice cushy footbed and I liked the way they flexed, but they didn't keep my heel from lifting as well as the others. The Overloads hold my heel down really well.

As was already mentioned, the Overloads may fit big. I was a 28.5 in Full Tilts and Salomon, and a 27.0 in the Overloads. My old boots were a 30.0 (I was 14 or 15 and I think my parents wanted insurance in case my feet grew) so the only bad thing I can say about the new boots is that I now have to get my bindings remounted.
