Hurting thumbs when you fall?

I must be real stubborn because almost every time I fall I almost always fuck up my thumbs. I think its because im trying to stop my fall but still hold on to my poles, so i just put my thumbs out instead of my whole hand. Anyone else feel like a total gaper and do this?

Its just skiers thumb-everybody gets it. That happens all the time, not much to worry about unless its hurting a lot a week or so after you've injured it.

Happens a lot when you snowboard too, because you always fall on your ass and try to save yourself with your hands. Skiing isn't much better because a lot of people use poles, they will severely fuck up your hands if you ride park. It sucks, but you can either wear 5 pairs of gloves or just live with it.

learn to tuck and slide/roll out of falls rather than trying to stop your fall with your hands

Often times skiers thumb happens because you're holding your poles wrong. Try holding them like this:

That's what I do now and it works like a charm. No more sprained thumbs!

oh yeah man all the time

Used some bandages while skiing last 2 days helped a lot. Its just hard as fuck to make em fit in the gloves.

Yep. Broke my thumb last year. same thing.

Skiers thumb is a bitch. It cost me a ski trip. Oh well. I love poles no homo

ding ding ding! we have a winner! trying to stop yourself from falling by putting out your hands/arms is probably one of the worst things you can do. it's the fastest way to break thumbs, wrists, arms, and collar bones.

the only thing I'd try and put my arms out for is to save my face. other than that, just take the brunt of the fall with your torso as opposed to concentrating all of that force on your hands. believe it or not, there is an art to falling.

Ive fudged both my thumbs up last weekend, and now on this week i fucked one up some more, but nothing was fractured, it was just put under so much pressure it got blue and swollen, still is, but the doctor said i should just adjust my landing and prepare for next season^^ best thing a doctors ever told me ..

yeah i do it, the best thing to do when youfall is to just try and catch it with your forearms and it takes away the wrisk of wrist and thumb injury
