Can you become perma-fried if you take LSD too much? Is there a limit to how many times you should take it? One of my buddies is starting to take it pretty excessively (twice a week) and I'm curious/worried if anyone else is starting to notice a change in there friends, and what kind of change.
There doesn't seem to be a set limit to the amount of LSD an individual can take, physically or psychologically. "Acid casualties" from the 60s and 70s do seem to suggest that repeated chronic use of LSD can have long term effects on your brain and your mental well being. At the same time, however, practitioners like Timothy Leary took LSD over one thousand times in their lifetime with no apparent long term physiological damage?
Perhaps what is important is less how much you take, but more how you take it. People like Leary were very careful about set and setting when taking LSD.

I'm just curious what this will do to my friend in the long run, someone fill me in with experience.

Physically hell be alright but alot of times people lose their ability to function under the normal constraints that society has defined. AKA he might be viewed as a wierdo or it will be harder for him to work a regular job, etc

I know a few people who have just friiiied their brain, but then I know others who have taken the same amount if not more and are perfectly fine. I think its all depends on the person and their mentality or the kind of trips they had, being good or bad. Ive seen how a bad trip can just completely alter someones life from just frying one time... Its all about moderation though but if your friend is able to drop acid twice a week and can still live a normal functioning life then let him go with it in my opinion.

Myth.

Doing any drug excessively will fry your brain, because your brain simply can't handle the amount of stimulation that frequently. Same thing with E, Weed, Alcohol, and even food. LSD is unique in that there's not much of a hangover, like with mushrooms, so one can avoid digesting what they've learned en lieu of taking more the next day, which is counterproductive to what LSD represents and how it should be used.

I've had this happen to my friends, they just went through a phase, we all did, I didn't do it as much as they did.
I noticed that some of my friends though just became more spacey in general, their art skills increased, along with their general creativity, but that is about it. It can be something to worry about, in a psychological aspect, everyone's going to change. I've changed (in my opinion, others have noticed it too) after doing acid a couple times.
Just keep it in moderation.
The brain can only handle so much.

Yeah its not great for you, def. makes you more spacey. Anyone who says otherwise is probably just trying to sound cool.

That said, he'll probably come out the other side OK, as long as he has mentally stimulating goals and hobbies. I would say that all you REALLY learn from it, is that it isn't worth taking, but thats maybe just my opinion.

The other annoying thing Is that it makes people believe ANYTHING. Most of the acid heads I know love conspiracy theories and fully believe almost anything without looking for hard facts, but that might just be our generation too, I dunno, hard to say.

Good luck with your friend, but know nothing you are going to say is going to change his mind, because he thinks he's having the time of his life, and nothing else matters. Its not like other drugs where you can show them physical damage or get a big group to talk about how its affecting your lives, because most likely, it isn't really at all...

opinions and anecdotal evidence =/= scientific fact. not to be a dick, but saying things like "it def makes you more spacey" and "it makes people believe ANYTHING" as if those are facts is, well.. not very solid thinking

that being said, it just depends on your friend and his mind. lsd isnt gonna do anything physically to you but obviously if youre tripping all the fucking time for a long time, youre gonna be a little weird for most "normal" intents and purposes

but i will also say that ive tripped a good amount of times and i am more normal than ever, good job, still a good thinker etc, and i know people who have tripped SHIT TONS of times and they still kick tons of ass, even in the view of the most conservative people

i will also say that i know some people that tripped a fuckton of times at college and are weird as fuck. but you know what? they were really weird in the first place. the idea that a mentally healthy person will take lsd a certain amount of times and "go crazy" is very silly. but when people who are a bit off in the first place take it all the time, and for the wrong reasons (just to get really fucked up), then yeah, they're gonna be crazy

In my humble opinion LSD makes you think outside of the box, if you take a shit load of it you think so far outside of the box you might not even remember where you left that fucking thing. This in itself is not a problem, the problem is that everyone else hangs out in the box, so you lose your ability to connect with people who have never left the box.

So don't do a shit load of LSD unless you don't want to be a part of society anymore.

i dont know about lsd i ve never tried it, but i ve done a bit of shrooms, and you do it and think it s fun until you have a bad experience.

be careful with those shits, they are awesome and i think every one but people with specific mental problem should try mushrooms once in their life, having a bad trip is HORRIBLE and you never want that to happen.

twice a week is obviously too much for any drugs.

even gettin hammered twice a week is still too much even though most people do it all the time.

sorry should have said def made me, not def makes you... And there is a good chance all the drinking doesn't help either. I've done a lot of thinking on the subject as of late, but sharing what I have discovered about myself and for myself isn't going to necessarily be true other people. And yeah my thinking hasn't been particularly solid, but I'm working on that...

And yeah I was weird before, and yeah, I still kick ass :)

I call it the acid bug. It usually happens after the third or fourth trip when you can actually start to understand how your feeling on this amazing drug. Its like huh i pretty much just want to feel like that all the time. After a few acid soaked, seratonin deprived weeks/months he ll loose interest and prolly wont take it so often

Leary was NOT careful which eventually got him fired and pretty much sparked the illegalization of all drugs in the united states......

However, acid isn't something that really has any physical side effects. Like, you don't take acid and then cause liver damage or something. Its just a chemical that interacts with your neurvous system. Given this though, you'd have to be pretty out there to take that much acid I think hahaha. But hey, whatever floats your boat. I could see that being fun.

The only thing you have to be careful about is taking reaaally high doses of acid. Psychosis is much more common in higher doses. See: Syd Barrett. Timothy Leary was a product of this too. Leary was a pretty crazy guy by the time he got to his later life.

well, not really.. the only reason i brought up my anecdotal evidence was to directly refute certain claims.. while N=1 or a few doesnt prove that something is always the case, N=1 or a few CAN refute a claim that some given thing happens categorically, or as a matter of course

even if my post was all opinion and experience, it's backed up by science. go find me a scientific study that shows that lsd causes physical damage, categorically makes people spacey or weird or whatever, or "makes people believe anything." it's simply not a fact, it's someone's perspective based on a handful of experiences and opinion..

nowhere did i claim that lsd is categorically good or bad. i said that it has more to do with what youre like, how responsibly you use it, etc. i said myself you shouldnt overuse it, and i know plenty of people whove overused it, and added my opinion that they were weird in the first place and correlation =/= causation, and also added that i know plenty of people who have tripped out shit tons of times and still kick ass at jobs that would impress even the most conservative person you know..

besides, if you had read you'd see that gnarshred and i are pretty much in agreement. i dont know why you had such a problem with my post but if i had to guess i'd say it has something to do with you not knowing what youre talking about and/or being opposed to lsd. i invite you to do some real research and show me that anything i said was false

yes sit your friend down give him a slap in the face and tell him to come back to earth. I fucking LOVE LSD and partake regularly but I always try to give myself a few weeks between trips because every time i trip i tend to lose a night of sleep which can totally throw your shit off. Long answer short L can totally fry your brain and you need to respect the shit out of the drug.

you could be dosed once and suffer long term repercussions the very first time you take it. All depends on the person. I know a kid that took it his first time and got stuck there for about a year ended up having to go to some crazy holistic therapy retreat place for 2 months out in arizona.
