Head Johnny 94/Volkl Bridge/Etc

Hey,
I'm looking to buy a new pair of twin tips for next season, and so far the ones I've been looking into have been the Head Johnny 94s, and the Volkl Bridges. Does anyone know anything about these? Or have any suggestions of other skis? My only criteria is a fun pair of skis that can be used all over the mountain, groomers/powder/park. Mainly hard packed snow though, I live and ski in Maine with a week a year in Tahoe, so I'd like for them to be able to handle ice. I know I'm asking for a lot from these skis, but anything close to this would be amazing.

Height: 5'8"
Weight: 140 lbs
Ability: 7 or so, advanced intermediate

i have the new kung fujas, 102mm though, but they are a great all around ski. mounted them with dukes and have skins for them. ski really good in pow, also able to do some park. soft in tips and tails because of the rocker but other then that good stiffness. völkl skis like topsheet damage, extreme topsheet damage, that's my experience so far. cannot say anything about the johnny.

I have the Johnny's and I think they do everything pretty well. They are solid in the park but i just wish the tails were a little softer and more playful. They kill groomers, rip in the bumps, and overall ski real solid. As far as pow goes...they're good in the trees because they're nimble and quick, and can definitely hold their own in some pow, but when there's more than 6 to 8 inches I wish i had something with some rocker. If you want something that kills everywhere and are willing to sacrifice a little deep snow performance for a more stable/better carving groomer and hard pack ski...go for them. If you want something a little more playful and with better performance in pow I would look at line Blends, on3p jeronimos, or domains.Just my $.02.

Thank you so much. Shit, too many choices. Bridge looks great, these looks great, etc etc...

if graphics are anything to go by the Johnny's win without a doubt, but I think the next step is seeing them in person and talking to someone. Anyone near Maine/Boston know of a store that carries Head skis? My local shop doesn't and I'd like to see them in person before I buy.

I have this years bridges and love them. Whoever said volkls get bad topsheet damage is wrong, mine have been ridden hard every day for 5 weeks and there is no chipping at all. They carve really nice once you get used to them, I find that to do larger turns you have to get them angled hard really quick otherwise they love small slalom turns. Rocker floats amazingly in powder. It's really light and fairly stiff so I have trouble buttering etc since I'm 130lbs but the stiffness will help when you drop any cliffs.

Are there any changes from the Johnny's to the "Rock 'n Rolls"? other than the graphics? Strange why they'd go from such nice ones to such ugly graphics.

no change, though i think the tip is a little more early rise on the rock and rolls vs the jonnys...  basically the same ski endorced by motorhead, and ironically enough, noridca has the ace of spades....lol

Awesome, so I hear equally good things about both skis, does anyone have any idea of why I'd choose one over the other?

between the rock and roll and the bridge..... the head will have better edge hold on hardpack, but the bridge will def excell in pow, it has much more rocker... along with kung fujas

Being a primarily East coast skier, I think the Head makes more sense.. how's the head in powder though? Still ok?

Check out Armada El Rey's or Kung Fujas. Both same profile of ski, and still very good

when i rode the rock and roll, and kung fujas it was a beatiful day in west Va, with about 1 inch of pow...lol.... so i too am an east coaster...  the head felt a lot more lively than the K2, and much quicker edge to edge, though most people will swear by K2... :-/

the rock and roll will be super versitile on the east coast for an all mtn ski and that occational pow day.  With some mojo 12's they are super light too!  the 15's are amazing but a little heaver

Hey again - there are tons of Head John 2010's around for super cheap, is there any difference between the John and the Johnny? Any reason why I couldn't just pick up a 2010 for way cheaper than a 2011 model?

so to give you the offical answer, the rock and roll is different, talked to my rep today... it has an early rise tip and tail... the jonny is full camber

yeah the jonny would be an acceptable ski, how much can you get it for first off though?

 to the best of my knowlege the Armada ANT at 107 underfoot is a full camber big mtn AK ski, and anthony boronouski does just fine with his full camber pro model in pow

so yeah full camber should do just fine east coast, you just might have to throw it back seat a little more to float in deeper stuff

Yeah, I can find some online for 300ish from 2010, and the 2011 price will most likely drop over time too.

check out the 4FRNT turbos, i rock those at 104 underfoot, and i love em!  plus you can find em cheap

Dude don't bother with rocker, just makes a ski feel shorter. Stay with complete traditional camber for the best possible hardpack performance. In other words, the Heads. Also they are downright invincible skis. I just bought some. I have Moment Rockers but I miss full camber!

Sweet! And as for bindings, I have some old ones from my current skis I'd like to move on, and then buy bindings later. Is that ok or do I need to get new bindings on with the new skis?

Keep them tidy and don't remount. Get some good, bombproof bindings to go with the bombproof Heads that they are, and leave them be forever.

you could get a nice 12 din binding for around 120, and 15 din around 180. cheaper if buying used on here too

I'm looking back into the Volkl Bridge, mainly because it was one of the highest reviewed [if not the highest reviewed] ski on Freeskier, can anyone speak to it's performance on east coast terrain, mainly all mountain/bit of park?
