Photo final project topic

so we're starting with our final projects next week gotta come up with an idea. I want to do something with street photography but I'm not really sure what. Thinking about crime and punishment with a focus on working "the beat", we've got a lot of bars and nightlife in my city so theres a lot of street cop activity that I think would make some interesting photos. Any other ideas within the "Street Photography" realm? thoughts on the police thing, etc. my class is full of facebooking retards and my teacher is away till next week so I need thoughts!

How old are you, what are you shooting with, is the final open, and why do you want to take pictures of drunk people..?

not drunk people, cops, and yes the final is open. other two questions are irrelevant except for maybe the fact that I am probably going wind up shooting digitally.
cops dealing with drunk people was just a prospective idea or part of it, as is the entire law enforcement thing. I really just want to shoot on the street but I don't want to make a bunch of pictures of homeless people or pretty pictures of buildings. So I guess I was looking for some things people find interesting about street photography to help get my gears turning a little better. Or how other people might approach an open final if they wanted to shoot in the streets.

The fact that you think how old you are, and what tools you are working with do not influence the outcome reassures me in my assumption. Have fun taking pictures of drunk people and pissing off cops to get mediocre shots.
Please, get defensive again.

please explain how age and tools have anything to do with topic or concept? Obviously they will influence the outcome in some way, a 5 year old will not understand taking pictures the same way a 25 year old will. That is completley irrelevant to what this is about though. I'm not wondering how you think me being 22 and shooting with a dslr and a standard zoom lens will reflect on the outcome of my project. I'm wondering what types of concepts you find interesting in street photography and what you think of my generalized idea or beginning. If you don't like it (which seems to be the case) why don't you suggest something better, or a way to change it or make it better instead of just simply being a dick with nothing at all constructive to say.

Do not take pictures of graffiti. Please. Do graffiti. Or take pictures of artists. But don't, just don't.
And no matter how old you are or what you're working with—in terms of technical choices—do it with a voice. Rather your Voice.
Hopefully you've been looking at some other people's work and I keep recommending one artist, but check out Anders Peterson (anderspeterson.se). Not to copy him, but to see that even if you take away the very strong and beautiful technical aspect of his work his photos are always very much his.
Start with a technique you are competent, or rather, fluent in. And explore your subject. Then you can move on to deeper and more intensive technical methods. http://www.americansuburbx.com/2010/12/stephen-shore-uncommon-places-2004.html Check that out to see about Stephen Shore shooting 35mm and getting a huge show before moving into 8by10.
But mostly, have an opinion, stand by it, and do work. Good luck.
