So i'm getting a job soon so i can make some money for next ski season, and I can't decide where to work. Maybe i could get a recommendation, or hear about peoples favorite part-time jobs?

everywhere man. a job is a job. ur making money so it shouldnt matter but if u can get a job at any place u want try a ski shop or something like that

Yeah, definately apply everywhere. Somewhere most young guys don't consider though are bars. If they have a kitchen they sometimes hire young guys to busboy / wait tables. That's how I survived highschool, started as a busboy, became a cook after awhile, and finally started bartending. Even try at small places, it might suck at first, but moving up the chain of command def. pays off when you are making 20$ an hour your senior year of HS.

worked at a market basket for over a year. shit sucked but now that i look back i learned a lot about how businesses work. id def suggest getting a job at a supermarket as a first job.
rode my way from bag boy to assistant manager in less than a year. then quit and now i work at a skatepark haha.

lifeguard. it pays really well for the work, but you have to make sure you know your stuff. I got above minimum from the start and it only goes up, i should be at $10/hr this summer. The only problem is that to get your certifications cost like $400.

i had a job during this ski season... i was race crew for my local club.
i spent more then 80% of my time on closed runs putting up netting, timing and running the races.
there were 4 of us in grd 11 and 12. We were complemented on how well we ran the races, the best the club has ever had, some of the best they have seen. dont underestimate the power of yourself doing a job, if you know what you are doing, you can get shit done.

meanwhile there was OFSAA at the same mountain run by adults... doing the exact same job with less to worry about (because they asked us to do all the dirty work before the race) and they had a horrible time, it took them FOREVER. last year i was racing in it... they asked for my help -.-
sometimes "kids" can do a better job

getting a job at a place that you have experience in, like skiing, or maybe in the summer you golf, or mountain bike. do that and your job wont be bad at all. you may end up making more money because of the sill involved. like being a mtn bike coach or whatever.

talk to a staff member you know, and that knows you. if they like you, you just might get a nice job.

or you can work at mcdonalds

I'm 14 too and i got a job at my resort i like clean tables and shit and get payed. But in summer corner store cause its close to home.

lifeguarding or cashering at your local pool is a lot of fun...or just working at your local grocery store. it doesnt really matter where you work cause your young and you gotta have a few crappy jobs first, but it still gives you money.

Launch operator at a yacht club if you live on the ocean. Best job ever for me, payed 12 bucks an hour, got at least $80 in tips a day, and you get to drive a sweet diesel launch around and learn all these cool maneuvers an shit. Highly recommended.

Really for a first job the most important thing is to apply everywhere, and remember if you go for a job that somebody else is going for who is older, they will probably get it

Apply at places where you know someone who works there that is capable of pulling strings. Hook-ups are the best way to get a job.

If you live where grass grows at-least 5 months out of the year, in hearty amounts, start mowing lawns. I lived in florida for 16 years, and had my own lawn mowing business for 3 (when I was 12-15). I made $250 a week, and worked 8 hours. Its all about how you market yourself, and the job and time you put into it.

Also work hard once you get the job. It will help with promotions and gettin recommendations for other jobs. I have been working at a grocery store for 4 months, and the manager asked when I turn 18 so I could start working higher paying jobs there, over people that have been there 3+ years

don't forget to apply to privately owned small construction businesses. i worked for 2 summers building in-ground pools and it paid really well, i got to work outside every day and get jacked and tan without even thinking about it. it usually pays really well compared to other first time jobs because the work is a little harder, but with that you also learn so much shit. Just from those two years i have a really good understanding of how to form and pour sidewalks and stairs, install run and maintain pump and filter systems, read blueprints and lay out dig sites, operate a skid, and basically anything to do with swimming pools. that kind of experience looks pretty good on a resume no matter what you're applying for.

Im 15 and i started dishwashing at a restaurant and ive been working really hard and they noticed it and now i am bussing tables. On some 5 hour nights i make 80-90 bucks and you learn alot about business and stuff.

This.  I've been trying for like two months to get a job to start in 2 weeks from now.  Still nothin'.

All you can do is call more employers, and wear a tie to the interview.

Pound pavement, follow up on EVERYTHING, and cross your fingers.

I've got a weekend job in a shop which sucks fucking balls but my minimum wage just went up and money is money, im going to begin applying everywhere for a second job too, gotta save for next season.

basically, first jobs suck, and you get what you're given, so dont think you have a choice really, because if you're picky you probably wont get a job

Like everybody said, apply everywhere you can and hope for the best. I worked at target back in high school for a few years and really enjoyed it there, maybe apply there if you can.

Caddying is cush, no doubt.  Just keep in mind (OP, anyone else looking for a job) that as the new guy, you're going to be at the bottom of the caddymaster/starter's list, so there will be some slow days where you'll probably show up and then not go out.  Also, $50/bag is somewhat unrealistic if you're new to caddying, especially if you don't play golf fairly seriously.  As you develop the right rhythm, and get good at anticipating the players' needs, your tips will go up.  Especially if you're good at watching balls fly through the air.  If you can save a player embarrassment in front of his friends/business associates/whatever by seeing where exactly his shot landed, instead of having to spend 5 minutes looking for it getting frustrated and taking a drop penalty, he will appreciate it.  And you will get paid.  If you can read greens, you're going to be rolling in it.

But yeah, it's awesome.  I used to caddy at a club where I was getting $75, even $100 a bag from guys who knew me.  That's when the job gets great, when players start asking for you.

look to any nearby stadiums. pro teams, minor league...doesn't matter.

It takes a ton of people to keep a stadium running.

I know it's typically not a job guys think about doing, but honestly, babysitting is a really easy way to make money. It's usually at night, the kids go to bed after an hour or so, and then you're getting payed ten bucks an hour to watch tv and go on NS. Unless you find parents who go out a LOT I'd still say get a day job, but it's a nice supplemental income.

I never babysat kids who went to bed an hour after their parents went out. I was always babysitting kids who had no rules whatsoever... it sucked so much. They were once up until their parents came home at 4 in the morning.

Another time I babysat two 6 year olds, a two year old and a 9 month old baby for 4 hours and was only paid 20 bucks.

All in all, I hated babysitting.
