Haha wow did you look at the footage? Count how many over hanging cornices there are that forced this guy to drop in from where he did and not 10 feet (3 meters) lower. I saw exactly none. Infact the only cornice I saw is a mini cornice on the skiers right side of that thing he straps in, which ultimately broke away as he had almost recovered from the backwards slide. Proving more then ever that it was a dumb place to strap in.
And no I haven't been to the alps, although hopefully one day. But are they some kind of magical mountains that defy physics and all the rules of other mountains. I'm going to say no. Obviously they have their own unique set of characteristics that make the alps the alps, but they are still made up of folds in the rock and all the snow that adheres to them follows the rules of snow science.
