allright I know there is another thread already but I just want to say that today I was judging the frosgun and Elias and Russ killed it!!!
But the highlight of the day was fritdjof fredericsson on the first hit of the ko system of the quarter final who did a perfect triple cork 14 mute!!!! I know he crashed but everyone was just amazed by his tricks since he grabbed it forever and got the sickest spin ever, like wobble 10 to cork 3!!!! Yeah I know he didn't landed it but for me he got it since he brought it to his feet but landed it way to far so he crashed but anyway congrats to fried to make a triple looks like a dub ten!!!!

That's crazy! Frodo is the man!! I just read the write up on downdays and I was wondering if Russ was getting scored higher with his right dub 12 because it's rightside? I don't think in big air your score should be benefited simply because a trick is unnatural. It should still get judged as a dub 12, and your score will depend on landing and grab and stuff, not the direction of spin. However, I know how perfect Russ's right dub 12's are, so maybe it wasn't getting scored more for being unnatural, and it was just a baller dub 12. Either way, stoked on Russ and Elias in the top two!

The comp was yesterday so just wait a bit to see the footage!!! Shaun the cameraman of Downdays has the the shot cause we watched it right the comp and I can tell that was insane

I agree though I guess at that level your pretty much the same both ways, unnatural should get the nudge over the the same trick natural but just the nudge I guess.

well look at snowboarding... front side spins may be natural, and backside may be unnatural for someone. 1 doesnt get scored higher than the other though...

Russ scored high because everyone knows that he can do them leftside as well, along with a whole bunch of other leftside doublecorks. If no one had ever seen Russ do a leftside dub cork 12, then it would have scored like everyone else. Furthermore, consider the fact that tricks are often scored (or almost entirely) on the basis of how many people can do them. So Russ got more points because judges know that only a few people can do unnatural double corks.
That being said, unnatural spins in big air contests have always been a little weird. They work alot better in slope style comps where you can show both left and right spins.

I officially do not regonize that as a triple. That is a double. I hate when guys do late corks in their spins then people consider the upright part of the spin another cork!

ex in this case he does a late cork in the first 10 and all of a sudden it counts as 2 corks.

If you want to see a real triple, look at Turpin and Henshaws almost landers and Carlson and Browns.

Think about it like PK's dub corks.  his first cork is super subtle but it's definitely there.

definitely a triple. first 7 is hard to tell, but it's slight corked 7 -> cork 3 -> cork 3.

My thoughts exactly, if you break it down he finishes cork #1 at 9 seconds cork #2 at 10 then he goes into cork 3

that was so sick and obviously a triple. the first 7 is not as much corked as a regular dub cork, but alot of people (PK) do dub corks that way (call it a double wobble). personally i think it looks a lot better than when people do a dub cork and flip twice, like the way bobby does them for instance.

WTF are u kids talking about, he does not go off axis the at all for the first 540 deg of that. You guys realize that the lip of the jump sent him that way, in that video break down you have him corked for .5 sec lol... According to your logic if you straight air that jump, you will be corked for the first .5 sec of it, which is impossible.
