Appreciation for the environment

This is a serious question I am curious about. I recently had a life changing realization after going on a winter hut trip. I gained appreciation for the land in so many ways.

Just wondering if anyone else has some moving stories of how their life was transformed based on a trip or an experience.

My favorite things to do are go on river trips, backpack, camp, ski ect. Enjoying the environment is what makes me happy. I get really bored living in the city sometimes. I am reading Desert Solitaire by Edward Abbey which is about appreciating the environment and how nature is not a commodity but necessary for humans to be a part of.

100 miles off the coast in the pacific ocean for 2 weeks would be one story. not much to look at at first, but after a while, thats when you learn to appreciate the little things more.

Hahaha ohhh lawd, those were my thoughts exactly. The class got to the point where it was just depressing going there every day.

I took it though because I love nature and with my two main hobbies being photography and wakeboarding/skiing a love for nature just goes hand in hand with them. I never really had one specific experience but there have been awe-inspiring moments in nature that have made me appreciate it that much more.
