So i got a 24mm 2.8 on ebay mad cheap, real stoked. Has some dust that shows up in shots (as seen in some clips) big time bummer, can a professional cleaner get dust out from the inside of the rear element of a lens?. It had some small vignette issues if i zoomed out as far as i could (without seeing the inside of the redrock) and got a similar bright halo issue (also as seen in some shots) but zoomed in a tad and solved that problem. Played with some color and some shit in MB, check it out, open to any criticism, comments, etc.
It was so cheap because of the dust in the elements. If it wasnt listed in the description I would ask for my money back, regardless of the price. Yes a professional can clean it but it will cost you. Also I dont recommend opening the lens and DYI cleaning it. Actually go for it, but be very fucking vigilant about what you are doing. The only lens Ive ever cleaned/opened was a Kiron 28mm 2.8 and I only did it because I knew someone else opened the lens and didnt put it back together, shit only focused from 6 inches to 3 feet. If you open it, do it in a dry, dust free environment and don't touch the glass at all.
As far as the edit goes, its soft, muted colors/blacks are meh, and that 24 has to go.. again.
You're judging the 24 on the shots you think are the 24. There a few shots in there with the 24 that are awesome i just have to shoot it right and it looks great. The dust thing is something im gonna look into more, i think it moves around a little because i couldnt see it yesterday when i was pointing it straight a white wall but could see it on some shots today. Not that worried, i think the 35mm f2 will be my most used lens when i get it.
Let me guess, most the opening scenes, shots around :50, 1:00, and 1:20 are all with the 24mm.. right? Do you not see how soft it gets in the corners of those shots?
What version of the 35mm are you getting. Hopefully not the D version, it blows.
alright, if you figured out the vignetting then future shots should look cool. Personnally i like slightly more saturated colours but that is personal taste.
alright so I am not a video person, but from an artists view point, I didn't really care too much for the softer shots. It's almost too soft compositionally, and looks slightly out of focus. Just my .02
