'In the park' vibes/energy

Has anyone ever noticed the tenseness, or the negative vibes that come from taking a ride in the park? It's almost as if you can't talk to anyone who isn't in your crew without being looked upon as an outcast.

Were all at the mountain and in the park for the same reason-because we love to ski, and I mean when I meet someone who says their a big skier then I automatically know their gonna be a cool person. I think it would be cool if everyone was just more open/chill. I have no idea how one would solve this but what are your guy's thoughts

skiing needs to maintain it's good vibes. the last thing we need is every skier acting like pissy snowboarders that think they're the king of the park

Sometimes theres a group of douche bags at my park that will scream at riders on the lift and other days everyones chill and will help you out

I don't really have a crew
i have one friend who is actually decent at snowboarding and he has a broken clavicle
I don't really know anyone that skis park
I like meeting people on the mountain

The advantage of being from a less known mountain with a mediocre park is that everyone is pretty chill and gets along in the park. I don't feel like that where I ride. When I go to some bigger parks though I do notice the negativeness.

This. Most of the time my hill is chill (lolrhyme) but occasionally a douche shows up and ruins the day for everyone. But most of the time I can do some laps alone and no one llamas fun of me or anything. And there isn't anything wrong with skiing by yourself, I don't see why some people make a big deal about it

basically i have my friends with that ill make sure i know if they are going or not. but after that once i get there im open to any skiier or snowboarder who wants to ride. i totally get what the OP is saying though and i have seen this at larger more vacational places but at smaller home mountains i see a friend in everyone who can hit features

Usually its the kids around 12 to 15 y/o who are the douchebags on the hill. They think they are pros cuz they have their full tilts and baggy shit on and all they do is yell and make fun of people who are trying to get better. I'm not saying it's like this everywhere, it's just where I have gone.

i know what you mean, and its really a buzzkill when you do experience that, but ive still met plenty of nice kids in the park. normally they are up there alone tho, so the group/clique thing is a big reason for it

At my home mountain, Alpental, the vibe is great, everyone is just stoked to be there, ski pow, and shred the slackcountry. I drive 5 minutes to Summit Central, and its shit because everyone there is a douche bag who thinks you suck until you do something rediculous. And most of the boarders are assholes too. This is one reason why I have only taken one run through the park this year

The scene in my town is pretty small, so I've never really had that problem. Pretty well everyone knows each other or at least recognizes each other.

I think it really depends on how the older/most talented act. Whenever you have a park and theres a couple kids older than most who are constantly laughing, hanging with everyone, etc, the good vibes are reflected on everyone. It's when the few best only ride with themselves, people usually just get intimidated and its bad vibes for everyone.

If anyone is disappointed in the lack of friendly stoke, its up to you to give some pointers to a little kid or go out of your way to be nice

my mountains (orford) well theirs is crew but they talk to each other we learn from each other etc but there always a douche that comes and tries to tell you that you have no swagg,ski like a noob.or trying to teach you how to ski when he is giving gay excuse why he cant do but lets not get away from the subject skiing can bring some together others apart

ive noticed this with the younger crowd, like 15-26 yr olds, espec the ones who are right in the middle skillwise. usually the kids who suck keep their mouths shut, the kids who are really good usually understand the value of being humble, and the kids who know they dont suck but dont get enough attention run theirs mouths like little shits.

I get where you are coming from. I wish more people would interact in the park. I always try to spark up convo and compliment people where it's due, but sometimes i feel like kids just want to size me up or stare me down behind their goggs and bandannas. for the most part it's chill though.

thats true.. the skatepark in my small town everyone is nice to everyone,and if i go to a skate park in a bigger city its all a competition and if i dont do something i get told i suck...

When I ride to the top of an in run and theres a bunch of kids standing there no one says a word to me. I've gone out of my way sometimes to say "hi" or something to lighten the tension but everyone ignores me. I'm all for being friendly but i just get nervous talking to people too. Then when i do drop i feel like everyone's judging me. I never judge anyone whether there a skier or snowboarder or whatever. I've actually had people come up to me after i fall laughing and they'll be like "haha nice one". It just seems weird to me cause we're all there to progress so who cares if one guys better than the next.

Le Relais is a great place. Talk to the locals and you might end up skiing with a pro without a crew. Everyone really gets together well in comps. I love the park vibe

our hill is pretty relaxed and has a good vibe except there is one or two crews that are just there to be dicks... there the kids who pass everything in the park too.. it makes SnOwMaN angry.

I don't find this at all. Just ride around with a big smile and make small talk in the lift lines, waiting to drop in, on the lift, etc. I find that if you smile and just start talking people are generally pretty chill.

Sure there are the mean muggin' douches, but just ignore them.

The only asshole skier I know is my buddy. But he is an asshole in a hilarious way, or at least hilarious to me.

I do love pumping young kids up though, little dudes who need advice, though now the little 15 year olds are kicking my ass. Damn it.

it all depends on the mountain, the vibe of the day, etc. But it really comes down to the fact that some people are faggots and some people are genuinely nice.

when i was at keystone at A-51 i was just doing straight airs cuz it was the 4th time skiing for the season ( i live in kansas)  and i really had no "crew" or freinds at all and i got wierd looks and when i crashed and laughed it off people were talking shit like i sucked....but thats prolly just keystone though lol

my local hill is super chill...i can do the dumbest shit and every one laughs..even the boarders

I always talk to everyone, and so does everyone else I ski with, but that was when I moved west. When I lived back east.... Yes, I know exactly what you were saying, we pretty much ripped on everyone but out "crew"

Maybe there is a coincidence there.

I ski whistler, and what ive noticed is that people who ski alone tend to be suuuper nice, but if you try to talk to someone who's already in their group of three or whatever, they become unnaprochable. ive met like 5 people skiing alone, and zero in groups. groups just seem so much more closed.....

I tried to hang out with some people last time I was in the park. It sorta worked. I ended up just sitting on the lift while they talked in their group of three.

Be more friendly. I find the solo people to be really chatty.

There are definitely some "cliques" or crews or whatever at Snoqualmie. I generally ride with a pretty big group of kids, but there are some I never ride with (not intentionally, of course). I think a lot of it (with us at least), is we're filming a bunch. Everyone in our "crew" is trying to get shots, and we kinda stay to ourselves? I love meeting new people and riding with them, though, and I think I've already done that a bunch this year.

If anyone from Snoqualmie wants to shred, let's do it! I have a black jacket and purple pants with T-Halls.

my hill is so damn small that we don't have a park or people who know much about freestyle skiing, so when I go to other hill around my town it's easier to make friends cause your stoked on skiing like they are, but there are the times when there's a group who think they're just so damn good and wanna just chill with their crew. I think that's stupid, I get waaaayy more stoke skiing with with new kids and kids who are better than me

I totally agree that skiers almost feel threatened by each other cause everyone is constantly trying to outdo each other. Thats probably why I find it more chill to ride with snowboarders, we both respect what the other does cause we sure cant
