So this article popped up in my facebook news feeds. pretty interesting. it is basically asking whether Tanner Hall can be the king of freeskiing like he once was. Thoughts?

At his age, it's very unlikely we will see tanner pushing our sport on jumps or rails. I think were gonna see a lot of tanner in the backcountry doing some gnar shit. Not saying he is done with park, but it will be very hard to get back up to par with today's park game

I disagree with this, he will never return to the top, because there will never be a true skier who is the best in every aspect of the sport. Tanner back 6 years had this sport in his hand, he ruled pipe, park, backcountry, but know with all the up and coming young guns, I don't think Tanner will be able to rule over the sport as he once did.

Tanner hall was the first mainstream pro. He was the first for everythign. There were others but Tanner hall was/is still the king. The way i look at it is, he wanted to spin in the air, he did. He wanted twin tips that fit his style so he made some. he wanted to win gold like 7 times in a row in halfpipe (please correct me if i'm wrong) Not many pros can say that

he still shreds in the pipe and competes in that almost exclusively. i think he can make it near or to the top again.  his style is always the cleanest.

you never know about that though. people were saying the same about jp and look at his segment in revolver. he was, by no means, pushing the sport, but he had some banger urban shots. who knows, we might see some out of tanner.

plus if he spends his time at windells or sass we might see some park shots

saw him in the pipe at PC today, and he was definitely shredding, especially for coming off his injuries. I could easily see him still being a major competitor at X, Dew Tour, and maybe Olympics if it gets in for 2014. keep on shredding!

why is everyone in love with tanner hall when there so many skiiers thhat are better then him at the sport. ok sure he helped progess it. but he didnt invent it. your a dumb fuck. why are people in love with tanner hall? not that much hate just want some good solid reasons. no cause hes tanner hall or anything

Tanner is great and everything, he will blow our minds in next years crop of films; but he in no way was the single handed inventor of our sport.

I think it is because for a certain generation, Tanner was the first skiier that ever really truly introduced them to freeskiing.  He started to peak right as freeskiing began to grow into what it is today.

I'm not sure if you've started skiing recently or not, but years ago he dominated everything.  He basically always had some of the sickest segments ranging from park, to really good urban, to some big mountain/bc jumps, as well he won a ton of events in slopestyle and halfpipe.  Beyond that, he helped start Armada which everyone knew the OG team was the shit, and Armada entered the sport in force.  Has had a pro model ski for years with them.  After winning everything, he started a movie company that was actually pretty good.

So he didn't invent freeskiing, he was just really fucking good at it.  That's why people love Tanner Hall.

He helped progress it at one point. He was one of the few people to take park tricks into the BC. Oh and he put out some of the sickest movie segments ever. Some of his segments are some of my all-time favorites. I wasn't into the freeskiing scene really heavily back then but I know he used to fucking kill it in all aspects of freeskiing. Thats why I like him.

The results section of his website is mind-blowing. He pretty much dominated for close to a decade. I think he could get back on some podiums in pipe, but he's at such a disadvantage being in his late 20s. By 2014 it seems like there will be some new talent, trained on perfect pipes with airbags, throwing double cork 16s and switch double cork 12s. You can't learn that shit when you're 30 and your joints have seen 15 years of park skiing. Tanner can do so many amazing things at this point in his career--it seems like getting back into the pipe scene isn't the best use of his energy. But whatever makes the dude happy.

He definitely helped popularize and modernize our sport, but the freeskiing movement was well underway before Tanner quit mogul skiing and started skiing park. Keep in mind that even Jonny Moseley was skiing park before Tanner Hall was.

The Canadian Air Force played the biggest role. Without them, it could have been 5 more years before things took off. No Canadian Airforce, no Salomon 1080, no K2 Enemy, etc., etc. The newschool scene would have stayed underground for much longer. The Mt. Hood and Tahoe crews weren't plugged into the industry well enough, because they weren't major mogul skiers. Neither crew would have gotten a legit twintip ski into major production.
