Highly recommended camera for under 800 dollars: Panasonic tm700

Used this camera a little this past weekend, pretty stoked on it.

1080p60

avchd

built in 32gb flash

if you need a cheap camera, this is the one at 750 bucks

Only bummer is its raw files are mts so you need adobe to transcode them.

I've been recommending this camera on newschoolers since like last March, it's surprising that more people don't have it.  I was all set to buy it until the D7000 came out.  1080/60p, beautiful lens, time lapse, manual focus ring, etc.

Yup, I snatched one up a few weeks back for $750 CAD. Only managed to use it for a couple days and haven't really had a chance to play with all the features, but from the few days I'm super happy with it. Footage is uber nice.

Yeah I love the camera and I have had it for a year now. And if you have a fast enough computer it will play the mts files fine, or at least Vegas pro will.

it's actually 1080p60p, which is even better.

seems like a pretty legit camera, i'll have to keep this in mind for recommendations

HVX/HPX shootd 1080pi30p/24pa it just means it records interlaced but uses a drop down to turn it into progressive in camera.


And this camera is 1080p60p, which is actually really rare.

The only bummer is the mts files. If you use adobe, its no big but i used FCP so i had to transcode my files through adobe, which isn't that bad when you get used to it but its definitely not as easy as file transfer on FCP.

The footage comes out really nice, quite impressed.

the the files from the tm700, at least thats what i was told, i only used a couple shots and encoded them with adobe. I dont think mts files are read by fcp log and transfer, maybe i just need to dl a plugin?

Meh, hvx codec is very friendly, you can run hvx files on a power mac macbook if you wanted.

Meh. 1080p60 alone isn't a cool enough feature to justify the purchase of a camera. Give me a camera with quality optics any day; ergo, t2i is still better in my book.

Well, yeah. If you don't have the money for a t2i with good optics, aka you have 800 dollars or less, this camera is nice.

What I was insinuating is that you can get a t2i and flawless 50 milla killa for ~$800. Not some camera that is mostly shitty and uses big numbers to wow consumers.

Fixed lens= shitty by default. There are some exceptions though, such as the Canon s90, G10, Panasonic DVX/HPX, but regardless of how impressive these may be, fixed lenses are, by default, optically inferior to even the cheapest SLR lenses.

This, sony claims zeiss lenses on their shitty little handi cams, doesn't mean its as good as a real zeiss lens.
