T1i or d40x or _____

got some money for Christmas, ($500) and im looking for a camera,

my GF's parents have a t1i and it takes really nice pics, i love it how it has a digital screen and you dont need to just look through the eye hole, its a little more than i have but i have some more money,

my buddy has a d40x forsale, it takes real nice pics too, not sure the technicalities of it, (digital screen, auto zoom/focus, etc)

looking for an almost "entry level" camera, something that can take solid moving pics, real fast shutter speed, and maybe some video. i have alot of photography expericance just not with high end cameras...

help would be great, also, lense options, and if you have any for sale hit me up and well talk

Get a Nikon.  Idk what newschoolers obsession with cnon is but Nikon is nice and takes better pictures.  I would say the d5000 or d3000.  If you could pick up an d90 it would probaly be pretty cheep and thats a nice camera.  They just dicontinued it but im sure there are some around.

I have a Nikon D90 an have used a D40x a lot. I find them to be very similar in performance.
They work great, i have had little problems with Nikon.
however
Canon is better with videos.
Nikon is better with photos.
that is a fact. The D90 shoots 720 hd, while the T1i shoots 1080 with better image stabilization.

alright, i think im going with the d40x, hows the video on the d40x? is it simple(ish) and easy to use for skiing pictures and what not? im looking at one with 2 auto focus lenses... is it better to have auto focus or maunely twisting them? or just personal preff?

quick question, checkin out some kits on ebay, and i read that the d3000 is like a "split second shutter and up to 3 frames a second"... then i only have read the "d40x responds fast so you can capture moments as the unfold" can the d40x relapse that fast or is it slower?

t1i is much better if you want both.

The d40x can do amazing things though.

reallllllly want the d40x but if it cant take videos im not sure, like i prob wont do much with videos, but it would be cool to experiment with my brothers mac book and imovie... i found a few d3000's for not too much, and my dad has a wholee bunch of lenes from his old 35mm... would that fit a d3000 or any new DSLR's for that matter?

ok, t1i's out

prob getting the d3000 what should i look for while buying on off ebay? obv have had alot of experiance with ebay like feedback etc, but what lenses am i going to want etc? and how do i know if the 35mm lenses my dad has would fit my d3000 or will i not know untill i get the camera home? anyone have videos and pics with a d3000? im gunna try the search bar so i dont get bitched at

don't read the promotional crap that they put up on ebay. compare the actual stats of each camera against each other and make an informed decision. If you want to see pictures taken with a certain camera go to flickr.com and use the camera finder: http://www.flickr.com/cameras/nikon/d3000/

that's called frames per second, or FPS.

Most jump sequences are shot around 5fps.

while the T1i does have 1080p video, you shouldn't use this as a factor in your decision. it only shoots 1080p at 20fps, making it impractical for most uses since it will feel pretty choppy.
