What is our thought on NASCAR? My co-worker and I age debating this sport. I think it's pretty boring to watch. he says it's the number one sport in America currently and is the most amazing thing, the drivers have the most talent that any other sport.

What are your thoughts on this?

The drivers have a ton of talent, but sitting around watching cars go in circles for hours is beyond boring. I don't even know how they consider it a sport.

its "hot" because it is entirely supported by HUGE(beer etc lol)CORPORATIONS. i cant get drunk and stare at those driving billboards all day long.

well for one im huge fan but it also has to do with i have been brought up around race cars and the local race tracks my hole life... so it in my blood, like how foot ball is in some other people......... but i do have to say for people that judge it and haven't been to a race, it like reading a book by looking at its cover, what you see on tv is totally different, from what you get in person. the smell the crowd the party and the atmosphere is un believable and i gotta say a nascar tale gate party is better then any football cause it starts 3 days before the race.... and i will admit its hard for me to watch a race on tv i find it boring over the radio i find is better then on tv

Formula 1 is far more interesting and the drivers have far more talent.... and F1 brings the class! How many nascar races are held in Monaco?!

Also why do the cars only turn left? ... Surely the drivers must get repetitive strain injury!

it's pretty baller. i had the pleasure of seeing a race in new hampshire a few months ago and is it ever exciting. on TV it can get very boring, but when you're at the event, i'll tell ya, everybody is at the edge of their seats the entire time just focused on what's goin on. it's such a thrill, and unbelievably loud. those things fucking rip.

and if golf is a sport, nascar definitely is

the TV doesnt do it justice. it's not like football or basketball, where the camera is able to capture the majority of the action. the cameras focus on few cars, and you miss the action elsewhere on the track.

oh and local short track racing is so much better.

I definitely can not watch Nascar on TV, but live that shit is amazing. The people watching opportunities are absolutely epic, and all the commotion is crazy. Also, it is the loudest thing ever.

Its a pretty shitty sport to watch, and I'd imagine it gets pretty boring to drive, too. Rally racing is where its at for car-type sports, and downhill MTB for non-skiing actual sports.

yes, I wouldn't say they have all been shitty and I'm sure there are some pretty interesting Nascar races to watch, and they do have some road coarse races. Still I find F1 is way better and a lot more exciting.
Glad to know someone on NS cares for Ayrton... but his nephew Bruno needs to step his game up

Bruno wont do shit. Nascar is a sport for americans, flat out speed, lots of booze and loud noises. They do have to turn right though, twice within a minute, pit stops.

As for F1, since all the new rules and regulations on the cars, its become boring to watch for me, because they are regulating the sport too much. I just get bored watching an F1 race now. Id much rather watch Lemans or rolex series any day.

nascar drivers are insanely talented, F1 drivers may be better DRIVERS, but the best RACERS are in NASCAR for sure. but still the amount of skill, finesse, mental calmness/ toughness, it takes to drive one of those cars at a competitive pace is unbelievable, then you have to factor in that its basically the most competitive type of racing out there and its just insane.

that being said, I dont watch it, other than maybe 1 or two races a year.

Higher speeds
more delicate cars

The whole team aspect to it just adds a new dimension to it, having to decide who's gonna drive on top of pit stops and car issues just gets tricky. Plus its 24 hours of non-stop racing. Seriously, lets see NASCAR or F1 guys race sleep deprived at night. Having 4 different classes of cars on the track at the same time is cool too, having the production cars (GT1 and GT2 class) along side the custom built cars (LMP1/2 Class) just breaks up the monotony.

I watched the 20 of 24 Hours at LeMans two years ago...yay being sick!

Well your pretty dumb for saying something like that..... you don't know the background of everyone who watches it, you don't know what people have for education..... like i bet you didn't know i'm an mechanical engineer... and i love the sport, cant get enough of racing... so think twice before you make dumb ass comments like that.... its not as red neck and hillbilly as you think

lemans is okay, a bit long though. never watched rolex but gp2 is always good.

I do Baja SAE at ISU. We pretty much kick the formula kids ass.

NASCAR races are fucking fun if youre actually there, but i agree its a tad boring on tv.


My preference is short track 1500 class trucks and the desert baja races. Now those are fucking man races.
