EYE TRIP...... a little dissapointed....

Listen. I swear by level 1. I have loved them for years for their soundtracks and cool vibe in the film.

But for me, i just dont know if it was the soundtrack (i have heard songs exactly like what was used in the soundtrack for eye trip) wasnt that good. Their werent any truly heady, electric songs that made you think "geez ive never heard a music like that before".  I think there was to much hip hop for my taste. Usually in a ski movie there is at least one song that blows my mind. In eye trip there wasnt.

And as far as the skiing... top notch.... but i feell like there was this vibe going on like the skiers just werent having as much fun anymore, sort of like they were bored of what they were doing.

If i could pick an exact opposite to eye trip, it would be jiberishes movie "right back where we started" The vibe in the jiberish movie was way cooler and way deeper than the vibe in eye trip.

in my view level one is a faster paced less emo version of msp. Focused and yearbook were epic for msp. Level 1 is still super edgy and out there in high five with ladytron, shanghai six with the fischerspooner remix of kylie minogue,  LSS with ladytron in the keystone shoot.

But the coolest thing about ski movies is epitomized in teddybear crisis and i think ski movies have drifted away from that.

There are tons of snowboard movies with the same perspective as tbc but i dont know why ski videos have gone downhill since 2005-2007, not in tricks but in overall aura.

scandinavian soundtracks are awesome in my opinion. cut copy was brought back to pks seg in a field movie that was cool. and cut copy was in tbc too so thats pretty ill.

are any videos from the alps really good? Is the rastafaride series with candide the best from those parks in the alps?

spark notes....  I think the recession is killing the vibe of modern vids... thats the only thing i can think of.

hell yes. there were a few songs i could have lived without, but thank GOD a major production company had the balls to use the stooges and sabbath. finally a bit of diversity in soundtrack.

what i mean is that most of what made snowboarding so cool was that it was TOTALLY DETACHED from the main stream. It was always shit you hadnt seen before.

Skiing seems to putting in mainstream shit just for sales, and i think its lame.

Some ski videos get it,     TBC is problly gonna be the best vid ever for a while because the whole aura of the movie was so out there,    that calling it   "out there" is an understatement.

Kris ostness and the other filmer of tbc...  

 i dont know maybe scandinavians on drugs lead to spectacular things.   I mean look at sigur ros and ulrich shnauss,,,   ive never heard music like theirs before

I'm about to buy Eye-trip I think, but I totally understand what you're saying about comparing level one to MSP, and more importantly how great Focused and Yearbook were (yearbook was the first ski movie I saw).  And even more importantly about Teddybear Crisis, that movie is fucking epic.  Blew my mind.
I'm one of those people that likes dubs and trips but sometimes I like to throw on some 1242 and watch Pep throw the steeziest fuckin 5'syou can imagine.  I think I'll like Eye-Trip though, the quality of skiing is just top notch.

Just curious, what do you think of Light The Wick?

Eye Trip had by far my favorite Level 1 soundtrack ever. The only ski movie soundtrack I've ever liked more was TSP's Come Find Us from this year.

The only songs that I really didn't like were hornbecks segment and wallisch's second song (Helsinki seg)

I fully agree with John, the original poster.
Ski movies have hit the skids.
I agree that TBC was sicke; one of the best ever.

I saw several movie debuts this year on the big screen.  All were pretty much lameoid.

The last GREAT ski movie produced was Push/Pull in my opinion.

What's missing in the last few years is:  Imagination, style and just shear fun.

Guys like Pep, Pollard and that crew get it.

It's not about endless segments about going to Japan to mine pow.
It's not about going huge on some table that took one month to construct.

It's about having fun.

That's what's missing from recent vids.

The music, accordingly, isn't very fun or cutting edge (risky) either.
It's safe....thus, boring. 

That's my dime.

i agree wit the sountrack part of eye trip, more or less. i enjoyed the songs but i do agree that none of them blew my mind in awesomeness. like in Revolver by PBP there there tons of dope songs that blew my mind. i was satuisfited with the skiing of it and to me expecially in the T Wall segment it seemed like they were havin fun and enjoyin it.

but by far my favorite sountrack for a movie is Reasons by PBP. the songs were very mellow but whenever i stumble across one on my iPod i never just hit next. they're all wicked good in my opinion

i didnt mind eye trip but to be honest i was really disappointed with revolver  it was no way close to as good as everyday is a saturday and i just got bored watching it :/

Eye trip was a good movie its just that refresh was so good i had super high expectations so it made eye trip seem not as good. The more i watch it the more i like it.

I thought eye trip was a little weak compared to other level 1 movies too. but saying that level 1 is a less emo version of MSP is a serious insult to MSP and what they have been doing for 20 years, they put out a better film than level 1 every year. and of course, teddy bear crisis is an all around banger movie

"I've never heard music like that before"? So wait in order for the soundtrack be good you want a ski movie company to discover a new musical genre every year? I mean PBP kinda did that using TMV in WAR and Sigur Ros in Reasons, I guess, but that's not what I'm looking for in a movie.

That being said I had not seen the Jiberish flick and now I hope to.

revolvers soundtrack was pretty good ill admit,   but its still not edgy enough and there was to much talking.

I have watched SO many   sick snowboard films  that    have the same vibe as tbc.

alot of snowboard films are just so far out there and have more original music than you could dream of. 

ski movies these days  need to   forget what a movie should be like   and just experiment.

L1P realtime was awesome  because you got to actually live the season. I congratulate berman on that experiment and I think more videos should be made like that. The realtime soundtrack was bananas too as has been pretty much all of the level 1 films.

still though   watching tbc makes you feel like you are in a different world, or tripping your face off,  i just cant express how detached that movie is from the rest of the ski movies ever made.

ski movie 3s   soundtrack (mainly because of deltron)  i would say is one of the top movies of all time, and its way out there too, just not quite like tbc is

and jd watch right back where we started. Through its soundtrack and unconventional transitions between scenes, its chronological scenes, and other things, the movie really itself seems to convey multiple interesting perspectives. It shows what life is like when your not simon dumont or tom wallisch. its a grind... just like it is for snowboarders. like seriously hundreds of pro skaters get over 100k a year. who is collecting all the money in the ski industry anyway?

I kinda got that he was saying that too.  I'm more into the quality of skiing personally, but a good soundtrack definitely makes the movie a lot sicker.  But since music is all personal preference you can't expect to dig every song in every ski movie right?
