This kid went to my school, and let me say, he was a really great kid, who had a TON going for him. Beautiful girlfriend, popular, athletic, smart and so much more. He was struck last night on the highway and killed. It is a very tragic and sad time right now in our community.
(NECN) - A Massachusetts community is struggling to deal with the death of a young man killed after a hit and run accident.
State police say 18-year-old Jacob Mayo of Seekonk, Massachusetts was struck by a car on Route 195 around 11:30 last night. Police say he was walking in the breakdown lane near exit one in Seekonk. He was pronounced dead at a rhode island hospital.
Mayo was a senior at Seekonk High School where he played on the basketball team. The principal says he was well liked, was a great student, and was ready to start college in the fall.
Police say the car that hit Mayo might be a red Hyundai with front-end damage and a damaged window. They say the car is also missing its right-side mirror.
Police are investigating the circumstances of the crash and trying to learn why Mayo was walking alongside the highway.
Out of respect, Seekonk High School has cancelled all athletic events for the weekend.
