How much does a tramp really help with air tricks?

I'm curious. I have been skiing since I was 4 (I'm 16 now) and can tackle pretty much anything on the local mountain with ease (being from the east I guess that's not saying much but I have been out west a couple times without too much trouble on the slopes). I went into the park with the actual intent to do some tricks for the first time yesterday and landed a front flip after four tries. I know that isn't saying much but it seemed easy enough considering I have never tried anything over a 360 off of a serious jump.

Back to the topic in the title, how much does a tramp help out with your invert tricks? I see people talking all the time about how they practice on a tramp but I have never really heard if it helps out that much. It just seems like something completely different since there is no forward momentum and possible less hang time. How much does it really help?

tl;dr: Does a tramp really help you stop insane tricks in the park?

They will help you learn specific tricks like backies and dubs, and they will also improve air awareness, which will carry over to skiing.

depends who you are but its hardly worth it for a lot of people. there's plenty of kids out there that can toss dubs on tramps but haven't learned a 540 yet, but then there's plenty out there that can do tricks on skis but not on tramps. helps with air awareness for sure but it doesn't relate to skiing at all in how you actually do the trick.

Do you think it's worth buying a tramp if I want to get into jumps? Air awareness is basically my problem when it comes to jumping too.

My only problem with a tramp would be my parental units.... They wouldn't want the eyesore in the yard

find a gymnastics gym, take classes or go to open nights... or a friend with a tramp.

You learn the muscle memory of the trick, learning a new trick is kinda like learning to throw with your bad hand, your muscles just don't know the motions. So if you have done a trick on tramp a shit ton your muscles basically know what to do so you can stomp. I had never done bio 7's on skis but a bunch on tramp and I stomped my first one.

I might have to find a friend... I have a foot phobia thing and you cant get within 100ft of a gymnastics gym without being blasted by the smell of foot-cheese

i think it is really good to learn tricks....cuz think about it would you wanna try a rodeo 7 on skis but didnt even know how to do it on a tramp? i dont think so haha...but its different one skis cuz u got like you said the forward motion and the skis its also alot scarier but it definitely helps

Tramps are super fun and an insanely good way to develop your spacial and body awareness, which directly carries over to skiing. Tamps also help you with motions so your not just hucking blindly into a new trick on your skis ei. if you wanted to learn a cork 7 chances are you will be way more successful having landed them on trampoline then having seen one in a video and just going to the hill and trying to do it with no prior experience.

i have personally found that they barely help at all. IMO its more of a confidence booster than anything else. when your out there on the slopes about to try that cork, rodeo, whatever on a fresh jump in the back of your mind you'll be like "o yea, ive done this on a trampoline before" then proceed to attempt the trick and eat shit because you fell asleep in physics class and forgot about momentum.

I found them to help out a shit load. A lot of skiing is muscle memory. Once you practice on a tramp, and get the movements down pat it's simple to get them dialed in on the slopes. Also when you fall learning on a tramp it does not hurt as much as it does landing on hard packed snow!

i can do a standing backflip, but cant do one properly on a tramp. i travel too much. everytime i get bouncing, i go for the back, and i end up jumping wayyyy far back. i cant figure out how to keep my hips forward and not drive myself back like im jumping off a cliff and need to push out.

hmmmmmmm

that said, i have a small handbag of tricks and im a complete rookie in the tramp. whatevs..

I dont care what anyone says tramps will help your jumping game sooooo much. I got to use a tramp all last winter at Waterville Academy. It progresed my jumping skills, helped me get better at grabing, and just made me alooottttt more comfortable in the air. Its great for trying new tricks, geting a good take off, and learning how to spin on axis or off axis the proper way. T-set spining will improve your jumping game incredible amounts. And gives you overall beter air awareness

I'm better on skis than on a tramp, but I think you should get good at back flips on a tramp, just to get used to being upside down.

that's pretty much my case...

I used to rock on tramp
but that forward motion always fucked me up on jumps and I keep getting lost in the air...

lol

But having a tramp is damn fun!!

for getting how to throw yourself it's definetly a +

need some help with flips and shit. I can do fronts and backs on the tramp pretty well but doesn't seem to be helping out on the snow. i've tried a couple backs and have not really come close i don't even know what i look like but try to commit and end up on my side all cockeyed and crap. i'm hoping if i try it on a jump with some better pop it might be easier but any tips or big differences that would be helpful for taking tricks on tramp to the mountain? on the east coast for now so don't have much powder to make my own kicker with fluffy landing attached. K+ for help

Hell yes it does. I don't know many people at the higher level who don't train on a trampoline at least every once in a while.

Air awareness is pretty much the only thing it helps with. I can do everything both ways up to 9 on a tramp, but can only do cork 5's and landed one 7 on snow. They are tons of fun though.

Sounds like you're trying to backflip on the tramp like you do on the ground. On the tramp, bounce first, then throw your arms/hips/head/whatever you use, but remember to not use your legs to start the rotation. Kind of like spinning off jumps. Don't start the spin until after you leave the lip.
