So do i have to shave my legs?

whenever i flex my boots it feels like my leg hair is getting ripped out and it hurts like a bitch. anyone else had this problem before? how did you fix it? different socks maybe? help me ns...

I conducted a study a few seasons ago on the effect of leg hair and how it correlates to pain around the shins and boots. I shaved one leg from the knee down, entirely removing all the hairs until it was silky smooth. This can clog your shower drain, just a warning if anyone out there wants to replicate this experiment and add some more data points.

After three days of riding, I concluded that leg hair has little to no effect on shin pain. What instead happened in my case was that the sock tended to bunch, creating ridges that I deemed to be the direct cause of pain, via multiple small pressure points digging into the tender flesh in my shins when I leaned forward and drove the ski. This occurred in both boots, shaved and unshaved making no difference. In the shaved legs case however, I did notice that infrequently the skin itself would rumple, causing much pain. I hypothesize that as the interface of wet sock / leg goes, there is a semi-viscous layer of fluidity created by the leg hair, as it acts as a medium for slippage and movement between the two surfaces. Without leg hair, it seems much akin to running a transmission without oil - without a proper medium providing lubrication, more friction is observed, in this case leading to more bunching and pain.

These results must be taken with a grain of salt however, as this is one persons experience over three days with only one type of boot. More data will be needed before this data can head to publication in a noted journal (SBC skier, Freeskier, Journal of Minor Trifles of no Real Consequences).

you should get bald spots pretty soon. I have no hair that grows on my mid shin or on the back of legs from ski boots.

ive never shaved my legs but after about 13 years of skiing there is just places on my legs where hair doesnt grow anymore

Thats weird I have hairy as fuck legs and sometimes I wear ankle socks skiing and I've never had that problem.

my gf fucking love my shaved legs really. and yeah it helps alot when you ski. i also havent shinbanged in 3 years because of shaved legs so deffo do it its so worth it man

A lot of my guy friends stopped growing hair there cuz of that.

Try different socks or tighter boots or something, but for the love of God, don't shave. That's weird/gross to chicks.

I like my men hairy.

that reminds me of a story someone told me years ago. a bunch of us were having a half arsed argument about whether thin or thick socks are better for skiing. this older dude said to wear whatever is comfortable and dont worry too much because a thick sock will be compressed anyway so it wont make any different to how the boot fits. crucially he said he skied for an entire week with a thin sock on one leg and a thick one on the other, swapping them over each day depending on a coin toss, to see which one was more comfortable. for him it was thick socks, so that's what he wears.

My enormous leg hair always gets all tangled up and sweaty inside my boots. Wouldn't shaving just make it grow back longer though??
