Alternative to Gummy Stone?

I don't live very close to my local shop so i wouldn't be able to get out there for a while. What's an alternative to Gummy Stone so i can detune the edges of my new skis?

also i still don't fully understand the use of detuning. just rub something on the edges of your skis to dull em so you wont catch an edge on rails and boxes?

exactly that. when it comes to park skiin at least


if you bought brand new skis, the edges are always wayy sharp, all the way up and down the ski.
you want them less sharp near the tip and tail, that way you don't catch when your negotiating a turn.

Err, and underfoot so they don't hook up when jibbing...

A smooth rock, nail file, or even the metal poles of a ski stand will work pretty good for just taking the 'edge' off your edge... as such. Unless you're spending all day smashing rails you probably don't want to detune them all that much though as they'll suck for regular skiing.

If you're skiing them all over the place, just don't bother tuning them, maybe de-burr a couple of times a season and that's about it.
