Will I be able to edit HD footage on this computer?

I use a laptop that I know won't work and I don't reallywant to buy a new computer. My brother gave me his old Dell Dimension XPS Gen 4. Would I be able to edit HD footage if I got an external hard drive or something? Idk anything about computers heres the information, thanks.

if thats the exact one and its not upgraded you're fucked... unless you want to buy a new processor and 3 and a half more gigs of memory

2gb of ram and a dual core will be in order here. Your computer could not edit HD footage.

You don't need a mac to edit... You can pick up a relatively cheap PC for like $400-500 that will give you all you will need. 4gb of ram along with a 2ghz + dual core processor.

i dont no what hd footage you guys have, but i use a 1GB RAM gateway computer and i edit 1080 Gopro footage and HDV from a sony FX7 ok. its sometimes gets a little choppy when editing, but is definitaly editable.

How long's it take to render your videos? I'd like to see some of these edits that were done on your comp with 1gb RAM..

not a chance. Its a pain in the ass to edit choppy footage( at least for me it is) if you want any decent edits coming out you better upgrade the comp. I'd try for one in the 500-600 dollar range with 4gb ram.

Check my YouTube channel in my signature for mostly all of my videos. Rendering times are a bitch though. I didn't even think about it when I posted before, but the rendering times are bad. I can deal with some choppy footage here and there but my rendering times are bad. One gopro edit I made at 720p took 3 hours to render and the video was 4 minutes.

To the op, if you can spend the little more dough into upgrading to more ram, then go for it.

I wouldnt reccomend just upping your ram. just drop the cash for a new comp and you'll prob have better results in the long run.
