Quoted from their website as a description of their Gonzo jacket:

"Ramp-up your steezy style with this eye-catching, functional snowsports jacket."

..."steezy style"? "Ramp up"? I knew it felt weird having northface in the action sports world. Huge props to Riddle/Martini/Wallisch for joining their team and bringing in a newcomer to the freeski world, but let's just hope they work on their marketing.

Thoughts?

and by this I mean by allowing north face to start expanding into the freeski world. More outerwear companies means more financial support for pros/ams/comps, and more competition for other companies to produce more reasonably-priced outerwear.

Your acting like now that TNF has Wallisch that this is their first attempt at entering the freeski market.

They have always been part of the market. Now they have Tom so you go to their website.

Screw Haters, North Face coming into the skiing community will be good for skiing.  Sponsoring competitions and aspiring athletes.  This will be good because the small brands will not be ditched by these young ns trend whores BUT there will be North Face out on the slopes on other people getting athletes out there, and getting comps going. Plus although i can't afford it North Face gear is very good quality

i think the north face is focused more on the functionality and performance of their product over what super-slick radtastic lingo they decided to use to manipulate you little fuckers. in my opinion, they already have tom, so they basically have you by the balls already.

quality = competition
competition = lower $ for gear
lower $ for gear = moAR gear
moAR gear = greater $ circulation
Greater $ circulation = strong economy

Therefore northface getting big in skiing will fix the economy. you're welcome

Quality = Expensive
Expensive = Buyers are niche constituencies with a new advertising pull aimed towards younger riders by acquiring reknowned "style" skiers from the newschool scene

Chances are the thousands of kids that tug to TNF will read that and think it sounds 100% legit. That statement wasn't written for the core market.. it's written for weekend warriors who think that kinda lingo is dope.

a market of skiing outside of NS exists.

Newschoolers is completely oblivious to anything not involving their few choice idols. TNF has sponsored freeskiers for YEARS!

as for the description. Didnt really sound that bad. And its not marketed to NSers anyways.

Your chain relies on price competition between companies, which actually fucks the economy.

Price wars = less revenue for all companies
less rev = budget cuts for all companies
budget cuts = less money into freeride programs (sponsorships of riders/events), less jobs, less r and d for new products

Yea i don't really care if they arent a niche or small brand. They make a good product AND they will truly sponsor skiing.  TNF can afford to put money into the sport. Lots of it and they will be try to become popular.  They will sponsor competitions and athletes.  When $$$ is put into the sport obviously its guna be good for skiing. How could it possibly be bad? The small brands will still do well as they are in the market for people on here.  People who buy a new Saga suit every year are not going to switch to TNF or at least very few will.  They want to be cool, not just like their idols.  TNF isn't trying to speak to newschoolers.

I think you're missing out on the fact of why he said "really?".

The North Face has been involved with the sport forever. Just like any outdoor sport. It's not a company that is just coming into newschool skiing at all. They've been going strong well over half this decade.

Oh yes sorry i simply meant that they are getting more involved in it.  Sponsoring Wallisch is a big step for them getting into the mainstream freeski market. They have been here but not quite like they are now.

So does everyone think that THE North Face never had a foot in the ski industry before Wallisch/Martini?

What about Sage, McIntosh, Dana Flaar and Ingrid? Not to mention DCP, Xavier DeLaRue, and Mark Carter on the snowboard side?

I think everyone needs to chill the fuck out and let THE North Face run shit the way they want to. They've been VERY successful since 1966, an I'm sure the bitching of a couple 15yr olds in XXXXXXL shirts is really going make them change their entire marketing scheme.

oh, and it is THE North Face, not North Face
