Ski Cooper is a little hidden gem 1.5 + - hrs outside of Denver exit 195 off I 70 then south.
400 acres of skiing riding currently - virtually all beginner
2400 acres of snowcat skiing in some sweet territory
We want a surface lift into the cat ski area for 2000+ acres of kickass hike to country (bombed) and gates to the back country that drop you right down on Highway 91 through Buckeye Gulch. We have other ideas too. Including DH mtn biking. both inbounds and back toward hwy 91
County owned , run by a no bid contract from a board of directors and crony officers voted on by 2 good ole boy county commisioners and 1 decent one for the last 38.5 years. all officers and board's friends ride cat for free like its their personal toy. Very few locals pay to ride or get to ski without skinning the whole mountain
The contract expires 5/1/2012. We have a lame duck commissioner going out in Jan 2011. the board scheduled a public meeting for Nov 30 to jam through another 20 years of the same ole same ole
Skier days declined 1997-2007 by 30%
While the Top two officers pay went UP 17% from just 05-07
their pay equals over 6% of gross revenue for entire mountain
no bids on food contracts, rentals, or nordic center
