What pro snowboarders wear helmets outside contests?

dont you get slammed harder on a board when you fall compared to skis?

anyways i dont want to knock on people who wear them,

but i think people who dont need them,(vanular, delorme, who?,  favre, gagnier, rougier, bertoni, rolland, candide, auclair, and all of level 1)   deserve some respect.  They dont deserve to be called stupid.   Some people just have it,  and wearing a helmet isnt necessary for them.

and another reason....   I wouldnt watch a skateboard movie where everyone was wearing a helmet and hockey pads... that would just be stupid.  The added risk does add to the sickness of whatever is being done.  Watch high five and maybe youll start to get the idea of it.

I'm pretty sure that Sandbox was a film crew before they started making helmets. I haven't checked my facts though.

I don't get it. Why do people think its uncool to wear a helmet? I mean really? Is it cool to want to be to be in a coma, want to be a vegetable, or want to die? That's basically what your saying by not wearing a helmet.

i love the helmet/no helmet debate, it brings out the inner idiot in everyone.
first things first, if you put a crack in your helmet, it did not safe your life. your skull is not as weak as a shell of plastic with rubber foam on the inside. it just saved your whiny ass from a headache.

next, helmets are major inducers of retarded behavior. i see idiot skiers throw themselves off shit that is totally beyond there skill and get destroyed. when i ask them prior to throwing themselves if they think its a good idea, they reply "nah man, its cool. i got my helmet" enter torn acl.

finally, kids love wearing helmets nowadays because they see all the pros doing it. 95% of this site would start masturbating into their coffee before drinking it if they found out Tom Wallisch did it before going to a park shoot. some one said it in a previous thread, its the sheep mentality, these mindless idiots gotta follow the herd.

ill stick to my hats, you guys can continue being whiny trendwhores. that is all

The fact that both kids and pros wear helmets does not mean that kids wear helmets because pros wear them. I get what you're saying though: some kids definitely wear helmets cause of pros, but I'm pretty sure that the majority of people who wear helmets don't do it because their favorite pro wears one. I wear a helmet because I got a serious concussion one time, and it felt real shitty. Helmets undeniably reduce the likelihood of a head injury. They've definitely saved people from more than a headache. Plus the fact that your skull is stronger than a helmet doesn't mean that a helmet is weak.

short version- not everyone is a trendwhore and helmets do really help.

dont agree with you, but pat milberry and jed anderson both wear helmets full time. and people like durtschi, abma, hornbeck, casabon and candide have started wearing em.

i wasnt going to get involved with this but this post of yours is such a piece of shit i cant help it.. quickly, in bullet form replies to each paragraph

-helmets are engineered to protect your head well, if that means cracking then so be it. youre not supposed to use a helmet after you crack it, but that's how it works. you can bet your sweet ass that if your helmet is cracked, it saved you from more than a headache

-helmets cause injuries? okay..

-yeah, great, helmets are getting more popular and "cool" which probably has a lot to do with well known, influential people wearing helmets, plus helmets getting better and cooler looking. if you think you're above this "cool" thing, then how do you explain your pride in not wearing a helmet?

you're going to feel like an idiot when you wreck your head and ruin your damn life just because you werent enough of a "sheep" to protect the most important and mysterious part of our body. idiot


also dont bother replying. i really dont give a shit about what you and your 16 year old friends think is "cool" or "trendy," especially when it pertains to the most basic and important piece of safety equipment in any sport. i just hope you wise up before smashing your head on something.. it doesnt take a hard or big fall for that to happen

listen, rubbersoul, your are easily the biggest bitch on this site and i cannot believe i am actually going to try and rebuttle because there is no way you will ever let it go.
some flaws are present in your argument

-if you wear them properly. go onto the slope and take a tally to see how many kids wear their helmets the way its supposed to be. let alone sizing, if a helmet is to big or to small, then whats the point?

-read the responses in this thread to this one, pretty self explanatory. people saying they feel more confident, it makes them feel safe. a helmet wont stop a blown knee. seen this one many times

-yea, ill agree with this one. i said it in my previous post

in conclusion, ive been skiing for all my life, im 20 years old. i rarely wore a helmet growing up, i started in high school (i'll admit) because all my friends told me to. that lasted a month. i have never worn a helmet skiing, and just know what im doing and feel in control. im glad you want me to wreck my shit, but i highly doubt that is going to happen since im getting older and less extreme.

also, obviously you dont need a helmet if youre just cruising but your post was an immature attack on most people who wear helmets and that's ridiculous

Well said.

As a ski patroller I've seen enough people sustain considerable brain injury while wearing a helmet, even from small crashes. I'd rather wear a helmet and know that my risks of messing up my noggin are way lower, than look "cool" and not wear a helmet.
