Ok so heres the deal. I recently bought AR7s with salomon sth 16s center mounted. Ironically right after I got these mounted I realized these bindings might not be for me considering I weigh only 145 lbs and am 5'11". I charge pretty hard though and would consider myself a 3+. I am honestly considering on switching these out for some sth 14 drivers since it is within my din range.

So the question is, should I take the sth 16s off and remount some sth 14 drivers? I just don't want to risk getting hurt by having such a high din binding. Also how will it affect the ski itself by drilling more holes to mount the other bindings? +K for some legit answers. Thanks guys!

How do you go into a shop and spend 800+ dollars without seriously thinking about what you are spending the money on? Your best bet is to probably remount with STH 14's or 12's (driver toe obviously). If you can't or it will cost you to much money then it is possible to ski with the 16's but in reality they are just to much for someone your size.

If you have the spending power buy the new stuff and yes it should still be safe. Go and ask a teck from your local shop as he will also be ale to look at your skis and give you a better answer.

They won't have to re drill, the mounting patterns for the sth 16 and the 14 driver are the same, go 14

Naw man, the holes don't match up at all, it's like a foot off.


In case you couldn't tell, I was kidding, the holes match up perfectly, and if you're not comfortable rinding a 16 DIN binding then don't ride a 16 DIN binding, go ahead and switch it out.

its all pretty much in your confidence in skiing.. if you know your gonna be shreddin pretty hard and think your skis may pop off to easily, then thats your decision. maybe ski on them for a day, see what you think, then decide from there.

I'm am sort of in the same position but I hvent mounted mine yet. They would be going on my jj's and I would be charging pretty hard so I think I'm going to stick with them.

the sth 16 wats the din range.. cause if your riding park.. just a guess because of ar7. pretty high din is usually good. but not to high that you will brake a leg when you fall hard. if i was you id put them on a low din. or change if you have the money. and sell the 16s

Where do you usually set your DIN? If it's 9 or 10 stick with the STH16. If you bought the STH16 thinking you would "step it up" this year and crank the DIN to 9+ when you have had it at 7 or 8 in the past, then I would swap out for the STH14. And yes, the holes will match up so long as the STH14 has the driver toe. I would have no qualms about riding a binding on it's lower limit, I do all the time on my sally 920s (11-17) without ever having a problem, but pushing the limit is not worth the risk for your knees.

ride them as is.
don't put another set of holes in your skis before they even touch the snow.

keep as is, kept on the lowest din setting they will still release. not worth money or ski damage

remount with sth 14 at core center. you will be happy, and so will your knees.

Keep them and put your din at 9, im 5'11 and 150lbs and my sth 14 on my park ski are at 9 and my jester on my JJ's are at 10 and i never add any problem whit them.

If you are younger and still growing keep the 16's. If you are done growing then consider the switch.

If i replaced them with sth 14s i would be mounting them at -2.5 back from the center. Is it a bad idea to drill a new set of holes? Thanks again for all of your help.

I'm 5'7" 150 lbs and i ski with my dins on 13 regularly but in competitions I turn them up to 15 so it depends on how good of a skier you are. I would definitely go with the 16's.

Lots of bad answers in here.

This is what you need to do BEFORE considering any of these options, and should have done before purchasing bindings. Using all your information height weight, skiier type, and BSL along with this chart:

Find out what DIN you should be at.

Now go forward with this information. You are on the border on the weight range which could go either way, as well as deciding if you are a 3 or a 3+, so this does make your decision more difficult.

Use the chart and that information to make an informed decision yourself. Don't rely on other peoples opinions.
